Position Summary:
 
The UC Irvine School of Medicine Department of Physiology & Biophysics is dedicated to conducting innovative, cutting-edge research, engaging in high-level service and providing excellent educational opportunities and mentoring to students, postdoctoral fellows and residents in the discipline of physiology and biophysics.
 
The Goldstein-Zhao laboratory is seeking to hire a skilled technician to support ongoing research activities. The position provides a unique opportunity to gain experience in a highly interdisciplinary research program. Responsibilities include but are not limited to basic molecular biology, ordering and organizing consumables, mouse colony maintenance and genotyping, and contributing with other lab members to routine lab maintenance activities, all to support major research projects on ion channels in the heart, brain, and immune system in health and disease. The position requires a bachelor’s degree in biological or biomedical sciences, a commitment to excellence, good attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.

Required:
 
Experience in basic molecular biology is favored. Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and one year of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
Bachelor’s degree in biological or biomedical sciences.
Basic laboratory skills Molecular biology expertise (plasmid DNA mini, maxiprep; site-directed mutagenesis; restriction digestion of recombinant plasmid)
