Research Technologist I
Job Description
Position Description:
Purpose
Under general supervision provide support for Mouse Transgenic Core including but not limited to production of transgenic animals, animal colony maintenance, animal surgeries and communication of data.
Primary Functions
- Carry out techniques and perform routine tasks related to the generation of transgenic animals including but not limited to microinjection and survival surgery on mice and rats
- Carry out techniques and perform routine tasks related to the cryopreservation of rodent germplasm
- Perform husbandry on transgenic rodent colonies
- Record and compile accurate records and communicate summaries of projects.
- Participate in meetings with principal investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data as needed.
- Carry out assigned duties for ordering and maintaining supply of inventories.
- Maintain general cleanliness and organization of the laboratory.
- Operate, calibrate and perform routine maintenance on specialized equipment used in research.
- Perform daily lab operation in the absence of the supervisor or principal investigator.

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities
Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.
Basic computer skills, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.

Specifications
Appropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on equivalent basis
Minimum Required Education: Bachelor’s degree
Minimum Required Experience: No experience required
Preferred Education: B.S. or B.A. in science related field
Preferred Experience: Animal Handling, familiarity with IACUC regulations
