Position Description:

Purpose

Under general supervision provide support for Mouse Transgenic Core including but not limited to production of transgenic animals, animal colony maintenance, animal surgeries and communication of data.

Primary Functions

• Carry out techniques and perform routine tasks related to the generation of transgenic animals including but not limited to microinjection and survival surgery on mice and rats
• Carry out techniques and perform routine tasks related to the cryopreservation of rodent germplasm
• Perform husbandry on transgenic rodent colonies
• Record and compile accurate records and communicate summaries of projects.
• Participate in meetings with principal investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data as needed.
• Carry out assigned duties for ordering and maintaining supply of inventories.
• Maintain general cleanliness and organization of the laboratory.
• Operate, calibrate and perform routine maintenance on specialized equipment used in research.
• Perform daily lab operation in the absence of the supervisor or principal investigator.

Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.

Basic computer skills, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.

Appropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on equivalent basis

Minimum Required Education:               Bachelor’s degree

Minimum Required Experience:              No experience required

Preferred Education: B.S. or B.A. in science related field

Preferred Experience: Animal Handling, familiarity with IACUC regulations
