The Sentinel intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) program represents the modernization of the ground-based leg of the nuclear triad. We are seeking a Sentinel Payloads and Reentry Systems Engineer to be embedded within the NXN Payloads Division at Hill Air Force Base in Utah. The Sentinel Payloads Division is charged with government oversight of development and performance evaluation for all payloads, reentry vehicles, and reentry systems being developed for Sentinel ICBM.

 

As an on-site Sentinel Payloads and Reentry Systems  Engineer you would...

  • Support the development, prototyping, testing, and performance evaluation of payloads, reentry vehicles, and reentry systems
  • Serve as a key thought leader and engage the Sentinel sponsors in support of maturing technical tasks, including payload concept development and reentry performance evaluation
  • Interface with APL counterparts and the supporting divisions within the Sentinel program, including NXA (AVE Division), NXI (Intelligence Division), etc. to address areas of overlap for NXN
  • Collaborate with other Air Force partners from FFRDCs/UARCs and the Independent Support Contractor (ISC)
  • Work closely with Sentinel Prime Contractor counterparts
  • Engage APL staff in Laurel for technical reach back to support Sentinel sponsor analysis requests
  • Perform independent analysis and provide technical oversight on behalf of the sponsor
  • Develop or work with software tool suites for data processing, analysis and/or simulation
  • Work with APL Sentinel Program Management and Line Management to identify areas of growth for Sentinel Payloads support based on sponsor needs and requests

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Have a BS degree in engineering or a related technical field with ten years of relevant work experience
  • Have experience with missile systems and/or reentry systems
  • Have demonstrated strong technical skills and the ability to operate effectively in multi-organizational teams in a dynamic and evolving landscape
  • Are a thought leader with a keen ability to influence others
  • Are able to take ownership of technical tasks and provide deliverables in a timely manner
  • Are able to effectively craft the day-to-day tasking to meet sponsor needs, multi-task, and adapt to changing demands with minimal guidance
  • Have exceptionally strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, and ability to interface with senior military and civil service personnel.
  • Are willing to reside in the vicinity of Hill AFB, Utah as a primary work location, with periodic travel to APL, contractor sites, and to other locations.
  • Hold an active an active Secret security clearance and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
  • Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have a MS or PhD degree with minimum 15 years of relevant technical experience
  • Have experience with, and an understanding of Navy and/or Air Force strategic weapons systems
  • Have an active Top Secret or TS/SCI clearance
  • Are a proven thought leader with sponsor engagement experience
  • Have DoD acquisition experience
