George Fox University's Health and Counseling Center is looking for a highly motivated, Post-Doc Psychology Resident to join their team and provide direct counseling services, assessment services, and supervise the practicum students in the Graduate School of Clinical Psychology.


About the Job:

The Post-Doc Psychology Resident's main focus is to engage the resident in all aspects of the services provided in the Health and Counseling Center (HCC) and Behavioral Health Center (BCC) to prepare for independent work as a licensed psychologist. The residency consists of supervised professional psychological activities, and meets the postdoctoral supervised experience requirements for licensure in Oregon. The majority of the resident's training includes individual psychotherapy with undergraduate and graduate students (HCC) and the broader Newberg community (BHC), supervision of doctoral practicum students, crisis assessments, psychological assessments, administrative duties, training, and consultation/outreach.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting individual, couples, and group psychotherapy along with psychological assessments.
  • Supervising practicum students in the Graduate School of Clinical Psychology which includes reviewing the notes and taped sessions conducted by the students.
  • Provide crisis intervention and emergency services.
  • Fulfilling necessary administrative duties which could include, but is not limited, to the responsibility of all paperwork, such as notes and reports, in a timely fashion.
  • Joining weekly didactics training(s) to discuss issues pertinent to the training of practicum students and helping to facilitate didactics on an as-needed basis.
  • Providing consultation and outreach to the University's community which could include, but is not limited to, participating in the planning and delivery of psycho-educational workshops for students, faculty, staff, and parents.
  • Attending any and all staff meetings as well as participating in the provided one hour of supervision per week.
  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrating awareness, respect, and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and works well with a variety of people.
  • Other duties as assigned.

We're looking for candidates who have:

  • A Doctoral degree
  • The demonstrated interest in and commitment to university counseling center work and college student development
  • A collaborative spirit of warmth, acceptance, respect, and trust towards colleagues and students
  • The energy to flexibly manage the professional demands of a challenging caseload while maintaining positive and healthy perspectives and relationships
  • The innate ability to be self-motivated, self-directed, and commitment to high professional ideals
  • An appreciation for and experience with working with a diverse student population.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • The ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing, including on telephone, and to understand and follow instructions.
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office).
  • A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a church. In addition, employees agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.

Preference will be given to those who have the following attribute:

  • Previous training and experience in a college or University counseling center.

Job information:

  • Hours Per Week - 40 hours
    • Typical schedule is from 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday
  • Duration - This is a limited-term position and will conclude within 12 months.
  • Work Location - Newberg Campus
  • Working Conditions - Physical requirements are those of a normal office environment.
