Summary of Position

Provide overall leadership in the commercial management of the UNH Biotechnology Innovation Center (BIC) facility at UNH Manchester. Support general life sciences-related business development at Manchester and in conjunction with similar efforts on the Durham campus. Develop, implement, and evaluate business strategies for advancing while balancing the commercial and academic activities in the BIC. Commercial activities include business development and management of 1) the BIC Incubator, 2) the development and delivery of high-impact workforce training programs, and 3) the support of third-party use of the BIC for training, conferences, and similar ecosystem activities. Recommend and implement techniques to improve productivity, increase efficiencies, while maintaining and improving the quality of products and services and driving the BIC to sustainability. Maximize occupancy rate of the BIC while improving operating efficiency and maintaining state-of-the-art practices.

Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree required
  • Focused on business management and marketing preferred
  • Experience in the life sciences industry is required.
  • Secondary degree or minor in biotech or science related subject a plus
  • MBA an additional plus
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
  • Experience using Salesforce or similar CRM highly desirable

Knowledge & Experience
  • Strong track record of improving operational efficiency, budget management and OSHA compliance.
  • Experience working developing operational and budgetary requirements for a start-up or similar.

Skills
  • Demonstrated business development or strategic-selling skills
  • Comfort communicating in a virtual environment, including effective communication on conference calls, video conferences, and other location agnostic activities
  • Must be able to lead multi-skilled and cross-functional teams including technical staff to bring resolution of complex problems.
  • Rigorous attention to detail relating to finances, customer relationships, and responsiveness.
  • Excellent customer service skills for developing on-going relationships with companies, prospective clients, vendors, and overall operations of a shared co-working lab and office facilities.
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.

Duty/Responsibility

  • Develop site operating strategy and budget.
  • Engage and recruit BIC clients and participate in strategy development to meet long-term goals for corporate engagement in Manchester and Southern NH.
  • Engage with outside vendors and service providers to develop strategic partnerships and equipment and promotional sponsorships supporting the facility.
  • Develop and implement effective solutions for resolving operational issues.
  • Ensure the budget and short- and long-range operating objectives are followed regularly and in line with the budget.
  • Partner with the BIC Director of Scientific and Training Operations and UNH Manchester biotechnology faculty to design, develop, and deploy high-impact laboratory-based training programs that support local workforce needs while encouraging enrollment in degree-bearing academic programs.
  • Develop and implement onboarding procedures and conduct client service reviews to ensure client expectations are met and issues involving study conduct or reporting are resolved in a way that maximizes client satisfaction.

Duty/Responsibility

  • Support client engagement by giving and/or participating in tours and meetings with potential clients, as needed.
  • Coordinate with on-site staff to ensure efficient operation of the facility.
  • Engage with various consultants and service providers necessary for successful site operations.
  • Work closely with UNH marketing to help with outreach and new business development.
  • Coordinate with UNH Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) to implement and ensure that all laboratory practices and policies are integrated into the contracting and operation of the facility.
  • Monitor and maintain the high quality of services.
  • Maintain a high level of integrity for all aspects of the customer experience at the site.
