Senior Research Associate

Required Educational Background: Applicant must have a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely-related field. Postdoctoral experience in motor design and electromagnetic component technologies.

Required Skillset: For the research component of the position, the required skillset includes: Strong background in electromagnetic modeling, motor design, and motor performance benchmarking using tools including Ansys and other finite element methods.  In addition to conducting research, your duties may also include preparing reports, performing literature reviews, supervising graduate and undergraduate students, and assisting with other projects in the laboratory.  In addition, because this is a new laboratory, you will also be asked to participate in the establishment of new laboratory facilities to support general research activities in the areas of motors and motor designs as well as trade studies and use cases moving into the future.  Other required skill sets include finite element modeling and; Strong interest in basic and applied research. Good verbal and written communication skills; Ability to work both independently and within a team structure delivering project components on given time schedules; Ability to multi-task.

Responsibilities: The research-related responsibilities of this position will include: Mentoring graduate students; Writing journal publications, preparing reports that summarize the work conducted for progress reports to funding agencies; Planning, developing, and implementing technical and scientific research programs; Contributing to proposal writing and acquisition of preliminary data.
