| Brief Summary of Work for this Position | The Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography at University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a full-time twelve-month non-tenure track postdoctoral position with its experimental nuclear physics group. The research activities of the group focus on precision tests of low-energy QCD and searches for new physics beyond the standard model via the light pseudoscalar meson decay measurements at Jefferson Lab. The group seeks a postdoctoral research associate to work with the group on the PrimEx-eta and the JLab Eta Factory (JEF) experiments in Hall D at Jefferson Lab. This is a 1 year term-limited appointment opportunity with the possibility for renewal up to three years. The starting date is July 3, 2023 and can be negotiable. |

| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit | The Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography is an academic unit within the College of Arts and Sciences. The Department provides quality programs leading to B.S. and B.A. degrees in Physics, Coastal Engineering, or 3+2 Physics/Electrical Engineering. A strong commitment also exists to provide research opportunities for student participation in the scholarly activity of its faculty. The Department supports the College’s mission by providing service courses in the natural sciences that acquaint beginning students with the laws of nature and develop their abilities to reason and think critically. |
| College/School Information | The College of Arts and Sciences is UNCW’s largest academic unit and awards approximately two-thirds of the university’s academic credits. Ours is a comprehensive arts and sciences college comprising the arts, the humanities, the mathematical and natural sciences, and the social and behavioral sciences. The College’s twenty-five units offer a variety of undergraduate majors leading to the Bachelor of Arts, the Bachelor of Fine Arts, the Bachelor of Music, and the Bachelor of Science. The College also offers a full complement of minors, including interdisciplinary minors such as Africana studies, Asian studies, Forensic studies, Latin America studies, Middle East & Islamic studies, Native-American studies, and Women’s and Gender studies, among others. Applied learning is a hallmark of the student experience in the College of Arts and Sciences.
