Position Summary

The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center (UNMCCC) and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the UNM School of Medicine invite physician-scientists with training and expertise in gynecologic oncology and a strong career interest in cancer health disparities and cancer health equities in research to join the Division of Gyn Oncology and UNMCCC on a career development Flex Track with an ultimate goal of becoming an independently funded health disparities researcher. The successful applicant will participate in the multidisciplinary clinical care of patients and in the design and conduct of cancer clinical trials. This is an Open Rank, career development FLEX Track position but early career faculty are preferred. The specific FLEX career development track will offer 0.6 FTE of protected time for predominantly mentored research in cancer related health disparities and health equity specific to the New Mexico communities.  The applicant will be expected to be clinically active at 0.4 FTE in gynecologic oncology. The successful applicant will have experience in the surgical and chemotherapy based clinical care of gynecologic cancer and have a strong interest and commitment to the development and execution of clinical trials and clinical research in a team-based approach inclusive of novel targeted therapies for these cancers. State-of-the-art facilities along with excellent support and extensive career development opportunities are available for these research collaborations with population scientists, laboratory-based investigators, and/or clinical trialists. Salary and career support will be available with well-defined bidirectional expectations and metrics.

The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center is the Official Cancer Center of New Mexico and the only National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center in a 500-mile radius. Its 125 board-certified oncology specialty physicians include cancer surgeons in every specialty (abdominal, thoracic, bone and soft tissue, neurosurgery, genitourinary, gynecology, and head and neck cancers), adult and pediatric hematologists/medical oncologists, gynecologic oncologists, and radiation oncologists. The UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center has three signature programs inclusive of Cancer Control and Population Sciences, Cellular and Molecular Oncology and Cancer Therapeutics. The successful applicant will be integrated into the Cancer Control and Population Sciences Program with Program experts serving as the candidate’s career development mentors. Scientists associated with the UNMCCC Cancer Control and Population Sciences have conducted more than 60 statewide community-based cancer education, prevention, screening, and behavioral intervention studies involving more than 10,000 New Mexicans. UNM is dedicated to overcoming health disparities in the catchment area of New Mexico and strongly supports a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion. Finally, the physicians, scientists and staff have provided education and training experiences to more than 230 high school, undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral fellowship students in cancer research and cancer health care delivery. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MD degree or MD/PhD or equivalent with board certification/eligibility in Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Board certification/eligibility in Gynecologic Oncology
  • Focused interest and appropriate advanced training and productivity in social sciences that prove fundamental to a career in cancer related health disparities research gynecologic cancer research and commitment to mentored team science and personal research career development
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in population based and implementation science trial design and conduct
  • PhD or other advanced certification in social sciences or public health
  • Experience in surgical and clinical education and training of residents and medical students.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
