Position Description:
Course and Curriculum Assessment Post-Doctoral Scholar

The Office of Assessment is seeking to hire a 100%-time Postdoctoral Scholar for AY 2023-24.  The position will support a university initiative to identify factors influencing the institutionalization of course and curriculum improvements in academic departments.


The primary responsibilities of this position will be to examine characteristics of department readiness to support and sustain curricular change.



  • Identify current and recent examples of course-level change supported and sustained by departments.

  • Interview faculty innovators to identify departmental practices that have influenced their development and implementation of courses and curriculum changes.

  • Interview department representatives to identify (1) current department practices for supporting change and (2) college or university policies that influence department-level decision-making about curriculum.


 


The person in this position will work in coordination with other current campus teaching and learning initiatives which are providing direct support for faculty innovators who are making changes in their teaching, assessing their innovations, and monitoring their effects on the quality and equity of course outcomes. 

Education Requirement:

  • Doctoral degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs, Education Policy and Leadership, Sociology, Public Policy, Public Health, Political Science, or related field.  

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of evidence-based teaching practices that have been demonstrated to increase support for student learning in higher ed settings

  • Experience conducting interviews and focus groups with individuals who represent a wide variety of backgrounds and institutional roles.

  • Ability to analyze and report interview and focus group data.

  • Experience with the collection, compilation, and synthesis of qualitative and quantitative data and ability to create reports from data. 

  • Experience collaborating successfully on a research team that includes faculty, staff, and students.

  • Extensive proficiency in written and oral communication skills and techniques. 


 


This position has been dually posted as a Graduate Research Assistant and a Post-Doctoral Scholar. At this time, the hiring department intends to only fill one position at one level. Applications will be accepted until May 2023 or until the position is filled. Advertising may be extended at the discretion of the hiring department.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher ed teaching and learning inquiry projects, such as Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) or Teaching as Research (TAR)

  • Knowledge of higher ed curriculum reform models and frameworks

  • Knowledge of higher ed decision-making policies and practices
