Organizational Overview

Comscope, the BNL-based Computational Materials Science Center, is looking for a high motivated individual with a concentrated technical background in theoretical condensed matter physics and materials science.  The successful candidate will have experience and interest in the many-body theory of strongly correlated electron materials including experience with dynamical mean field theory (DMFT) and familiarity with modern computational approaches.   The candidate will be involved in advancing the state of the art in terms of the DMFT-based codes being developed in the Center.


Position Description
This position will be supervised by Prof. G. Kotliar (Rutgers Univ/BNL) with additional oversight by Dr. Robert Konik.  This postdoc will work closely in collaboration with the team of scientists involved in developing computational codes and methodologies in the Center.


Position Requirements
Position Requirements:

  • PhD in Condensed Matter Physics, Solid State Chemistry, Materials Science or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills, self-motivation and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of scientists and technical staff.
  • Proven ability for disseminating research results by writing manuscripts and giving academic presentations.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% in order to disseminate results and communicate with scientists at institutions participating in the computational materials science effort at BNL.
  • A good understanding of the physics of strongly correlated materials.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience with dynamical mean field theory.
  • Demonstrated programming skills.

Other Information:

  • The position is a two-year term, with a potential extension for an additional year.
  • BNL policy requires that after obtaining their PhD, eligible candidates for research associate appointments may not exceed a combined total of 5 years of relevant work experience as a post-doc and/or in an R&D position, excluding time associated with family planning, military service, illness or other life-changing events.
