Assistant Teaching Professor in Psychology - (2 Positions)

The Department of Psychology at The University of Rhode Island invites applications for two (2) Assistant Teaching Professors beginning Fall 2023. We seek pedagogically focused teachers who are committed to the University of Rhode Island’s mission as a learner-centered research university where diversity, fairness, and respect are valued. Further we seek candidates who have a strong interest in working with undergraduate students. The Department, College and University recognize that the field of psychology needs to be strengthened by contributions from a broad range of perspectives to support all people in achieving their academic and career goals. As such, we particularly welcome candidates from groups that are historically underrepresented, marginalized, and/or excluded in the field of psychology that will support the mission of both URI and the Department of Psychology to expose students to different perspectives. Candidates will demonstrate a commitment to inclusivity to enhance a sense of belonging and academic success among undergraduate students from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Teach three to four courses (or 12 credit-hour equivalent) per semester in the undergraduate Psychology program on URI’s Kingston campus (delivered primarily in-person) with primary instructional emphasis on the following areas:
a. Intermediate levels of psychology such as abnormal, personality, developmental, and health.
b. Quantitative and research methods in psychology.

2. As needed, assist with development and delivery of new courses to meet departmental needs.

3. Hold regular office hours for undergraduate student advising and consulting with students.

4. Participate as an active and integral member of the Psychology Department with involvement in appropriate departmental- and college-level service activities as they pertain to assigned instructional responsibilities, including attending Psychology Department meetings, and serving on the Undergraduate Psychology Committee.

5. Perform other duties as required.

This is an academic-year, 9-month position, which begins each August one week before Labor Day and concludes on Commencement Day the following May. The positions are anticipated to begin in August of 2023 prior to the start of the semester.
