Job Summary

The Paredes lab is looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and organized Staff Research Associate (SRA I/II) to assist in research aimed at understanding the microstructure and function of the human visual cortex development in infancy.

This is a collaborative project with a Stanford University laboratory. The position is for two to three years, with the possibility of extension for another 1-2 years depending on the funding. The SRA I/II is preferably to have knowledge of neuroanatomy and bioinformatics. They will perform histological studies and computational analysis and conduct analyses under Dr. Paredes' direct supervision.

To aid in the lab’s efforts, the SRA I/II will assist the lab with collection and processing of brain tissues from hospital operating room and morgue. They will perform various downstream experiments with these samples, such as immunohistochemistry and fluorescent microscopy.

In addition, they will be expected to work with a team to perform tissue processing, such as nuclei isolation protocols, and sequencing experiments. The individual ideally should also have experience with Python, R studio, or equivalent programming skills.

As we work with precious patient samples that typically must be processed as soon as they arrive in our laboratory, some scheduling flexibility and a positive attitude are important.
