Job Summary

The analyst will participate on a multi-disciplinary research team focused on improving the early detection of neurodegenerative diseases, and on improving care for persons with dementia and their families.
Job function involves gathering, analyzing, and interpreting a wide variety of research data, which may include generating datasets and reports based on Qualtrics, Salesforce, EPIC, and/or Medicare claims data, running and troubleshooting R code, and preparing questionnaires, and analyzing collected information according to established statistical methods. Prepare reports, charts, tables, and other visual aids. The Research Data Analyst will participate in data collection by conducting surveys and cognitive testing with patients and controls, with supervision.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

Throughout the Department of Neurology at UCSF, our mission is to deliver superb patient care, to apply state-of-the-art translational research methods to discover the causes of and treatments for human nervous system disorders, and to educate each generation of medical students, neurology residents and postdoctoral fellows. By fostering cross-disciplinary interactions among scientists around the world, we accelerate the pace of discovery and champion the University's global health initiatives.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Experience with at least one of the following: R, Python, or SAS
  • Working skills in statistical analysis, system programming, database design and data security measures.
  • Working skills in analysis and consultation.
  • Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and written.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with using R
  • Experience working with patients or study subjects, including persons with dementia or caregivers
  • Experience with SPSS, Salesforce, Medicare claims data, and/or EPIC medical record data
