Job Summary

The Grounds Supervisor will organize, implement and direct grounds maintenance operations and activities at all Midland College campuses. The Grounds Supervisor supervises a team of groundskeepers and regularly inspects sites, prepares efficient work schedules, and assigns specific duties as they arise.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent 
Five years verifiable experience in commercial and/or institutional landscape maintenance 
Knowledge of irrigation systems and controls, commercial riding mowers, parking lot/curb sweeper, tractor/backhoe, ditcher, push mowers, blowers, edgers, trimmers, and backflow prevention 
Possess a TDA Pesticide Applicator License or obtain license within one year of hire date 
Must possess a valid Texas Driver License, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College’s insurance policy

Preferred Qualifications

College Degree and five years of experience in grounds maintenance and management of at least 100 acres 
Previous experience supervising a team of 6 or more grounds personnel 
Certified arborist 
Texas Licensed Irrigator

Essential Functions

Supervise a grounds staff of up to 10 employees 
Responsible for grounds maintenance of approximately 110 acres of manicured grounds and irrigation systems. 
Plan, schedule, and supervise multiple projects or tasks 
Responsible for licensed application of all herbicides, insecticides, and chemicals to trees, shrubs, plants, and grasses 
Prepare and submit written reports 
Recommend and coordinate all grounds equipment maintenance 
Implement safety procedures and correct equipment use training 
Research and locate all underground utilities, fiber optic, and electric cables for safe digging and trenching 
Utilize correct techniques in repair and installation of irrigation systems 
Identify any potential landscape and irrigation problems and recommend corrective action 
Continually research for better techniques, procedures, materials, equipment, schedules, etc. for more efficient productivity 
Organize all grounds supplies, materials, and equipment for better inventory control 
Have an awareness of departmental employee morale issues, looking for ways to maintain or improve morale 
Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

Frequently use muscles to lift, push, pull, move or carry heavy objects weighing up to 75 pounds 
Constantly positions self for various tasks to include under equipment and/or in small spaces 
Occasionally operates motorized equipment or machinery 
Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder for various tasks 
Ability to make quick, precise adjustments to machine controls 
Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time 
Work may be performed indoors or outdoors in varying weather conditions 
Ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach out 
Use of manual dexterity; use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls; use one or two hands to grasp, move, or assemble objects; use fingers to grasp, move, or assemble very small objects 
The person in this position needs to frequently move or drive to/from various locations on and off campus 
The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information 
Ability to drive a vehicle

$59,000 (annualized salary)

Max Salary

$65,000 (annualized salary)

Pay Statement

Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
