Duties and Responsibilities: Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for teaching adult education classes using instructional methods geared towards the adult learner in a classroom setting
- Plan lessons and curriculum based on the learning needs of culturally diverse and multi-skill level students which prepare students to pass the high school equivalency tests and/or enhance basic education skills
- Delivers whole group, small group, and individualized instruction to students, using a variety of instructional methods, materials, and techniques
- Create a classroom environment that is conductive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students
- Assure that students who qualify are pre- and post-tested as needed using the TABE 11 and 12 Assessment as dictated by DRC and Adult Education guidelines
- Keep daily attendance records and progress reports
- Maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date records
- Conduct interviews to determine a student’s eligibility for the High School Equivalency Program (HEP) grant & refer to the HEP Program Lead if the student is eligible to be certified and receive student supports
- Maintain all HEP paperwork and ensure each qualified HEP student completes the criteria for the program
- Participate and manage registration, testing, and scheduling events
- Establish a positive and trusting relationship with students
- Foster student accountability, self-advocacy, self-awareness, and critical thinking skills
- Adhere to regulations set forth regarding confidentiality of student records
- Promote participation of students in all aspects of Adult Education programming
- Maintain clean and professional classroom environment
Required Education : • An Associate degree or higher
- Strong communication skills, including both written and oral, with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of personalities
Preferred Education : • A Bachelor’s degree
- Three (3) years teaching experience
NOTE: This position is a grant funded position, and the continuation of the position is dependent upon funding availability. Continuation is based on the program meeting state and federal benchmarks.
Passing pre-employment criminal background screen is required as a condition of employment.
