Job Summary


 

The Student Services Director of Disability Services and Resources (DRS) position directs the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the DRS department and oversees legally mandated academic accommodations and support services for students with disabilities in order to ensure equal access as per Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the American with Disabilities Amendments Act. The DRS Director is responsible for the strategic operations of DRS as well as the evaluation of medical and psychological documentation to provide appropriate accommodations for students. This position manages and facilitates the daily operations of the DRS office, which includes assisting students, faculty and staff with the implementation of ADA accommodations, and providing services and technology needed to allow equal educational access. This position also oversees the identification and implementation of the technology needs of individual students. The person selected for this position will demonstrate a commitment to service excellence, collaboration, innovation, student success, integrity, and diversity, equity, and inclusion in the position’s performance.

Essential Functions


 

40% Directs the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the DRS department; responsible for the individual programs, services and technology for disabled students; evaluates assistive technology and other resources; maintains student confidentiality while coordinating the student's accommodations; hires, supervises and trains staff; active member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team contributing to retaining, recruiting and engaging students to succeed and complete their goals at CGCC. Utilizes data to understand, assess, advocate and make evidence based decisions for student needs and the department; plans and develops strategy, goals and objectives, oversees legally mandated academic accommodations and support services for students with disabilities in order to ensure equal access as per Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the American with Disabilities Amendments Act.

20% Assists students with identifying and implementing individualized plan of study; implements reasonable and appropriate accommodations based on documentation of disability provided by qualified diagnosticians; evaluates medical and other documentation to determine qualifying status of students with disabilities requesting reasonable accommodations; provides accommodations, support services and auxiliary aids; works closely with faculty/staff to ensure administration of accommodations in a timely, appropriate and efficient manner; utilizes DRS Connect effectively to monitor student accommodations and communicate with students/ faculty.

20% Provides in-service training/presentations and counsel to faculty, staff, and administrators; responds to inquiries requiring a detailed knowledge of policies and procedures of assigned area; establishes liaison between the colleges, community agencies, high schools; serves on Disability Managers Council; serves on college and District committees (e.g. Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT), assists with student CARE reports and student follow-up; provides and/or oversees information sessions and introduction orientations to disability services for new, prospective students and the greater campus community.

15% Follows, understands, stays current with and adheres to legal regulations/laws/policies (state, local, institutional) disability regulations such as Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the ADA Amendments Act; tracks, monitors, and prepare department budget and goals; collects and compiles data for federal and state reports; responds to, deescalates and resolves difficult or complex inquiries, requests and complaints.

5% Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications


 

Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, business administration, public administration or related field and four years of full time equivalent related experience that includes two years of management and supervisory experience.

OR

Bachelors Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, business administration, public administration or related field and eight years of full time equivalent related experience that includes two years of management and supervisory experience.

OR

Associates Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, business administration, public administration or related field and ten years of full time equivalent related experience that includes two years of management and supervisory experience.

OR

High School Diploma or GED and twelve years of full time equivalent related experience that includes two years of management and supervisory experience.

Desired Qualifications


 

1. Master’s Degree in a related field such as; Higher Education, Special Education, Social Work, Disability Services, Counseling, or Psychology or a related field from a four-year accredited college or university.

2.Three or more years of experience in the area of disability resources and services, specifically making decisions regarding reasonable accommodations in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), preferably but not restricted to higher education.

3.Three or more years of experience managing, supervising, developing, and evaluating a diverse professional and support staff.

4.Experience working with assistive technology and other emerging technologies to support student learning, including experience with DRS Connect or similar platform.

5.Experience working with diverse student populations
