San Bernardino Valley College is a designated Hispanic Serving Institution with a majority of our students identifying themselves as either African-American/Black or LatinX. We are seeking an individual to join our Kinesiology Department that is fully committed to transformational, culturally responsive education in a collegial and collaborative student-centered environment.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
This posting is to fill one (1) full-time, tenure track positions teaching Kinesiology within the Department of Kinesiology and Health. In addition, the incumbent may be assigned to be a Defensive Coordinator and an Assistant Football Coach.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Will provide instruction in Kinesiology and Health courses
  • Develops and guides the teaching learning process by adopting teaching strategies to deliver theoretical content to promote student engagement.
  • Assist in curriculum development, revision, and evaluation.
  • Consult with students during regularly scheduled office hours
  • Participate in staff and professional meetings
  • Keeps accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and scholastic progress
  • Observes all Board Policies and administrative regulations;
  • Timely submission of all grades and student learning outcomes
  • Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreements, and general institutional needs


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to teach in Kinesiology and Health areas as assigned, utilizing a variety of successful teaching techniques.
  • An understanding of current Kinesiology and Health issues and trends. Willingness to actively participate and contribute to changes in the Kinesiology and Health program at department and team meetings
  • A commitment to staying abreast of new trends in Kinesiology and Health
  • A commitment to supporting gender and ethnically diverse students enrolled in Kinesiology and Health
  • Ability to ensure consistent and appropriate monitoring of student progress
  • Ability to use teaching methods that engage all students actively in their own learning and encourage them to learn problem solving skills
  • Ability to adapt teaching methodology to meet the needs of an ethnically and culturally diverse group of students
  • Willingness to work with both faculty and staff in a spirit of collegiality at department, division, college, and District levels
  • Ability to reflect on and evaluate the effectiveness of one's own pedagogy and modify techniques to engage students
  • A commitment to the SBCCCD goal of integrating writing skills across the curriculum
  • A commitment to the goals and ideals of the teaching profession and enthusiasm for the mission of the community college




Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise or adaptive physical education

OR

Bachelor's degree in any of the above

AND

Master's degree in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration or physical therapy

OR

the equivalent*

  • If you believe to have the experience equivalent to the minimum qualifications for an academic position, you may request a determination of equivalency by completing a District Request for Equivalency form and provide supporting documentation as appropriate.


Experience that indicates a sensitivity to, and an understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and personnel.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in teaching students from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds and widely varying levels of proficiency;
  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience preferably at the college level;
  • Recent experience as a high school or college football coach and/or as a collegiate level defensive coordinator;
  • Experience in teaching general kinesiology activity courses, fitness courses, or lecture courses in Health Education at the college level; and
  • Experience in mentoring students in a Kinesiology related certificated program.
  • Experience mentoring student athletes, and working with student services and counseling services to contribute to the success of student-athletes
  • Experience recruiting high school athletes for the football program
  • Experience assisting with the conditioning, training and practicing of athletes in the program, and with monitoring their behavioral conduct
  • Experience assisting with fundraising, purchasing, and managing a Football team's operating budget; and
  • Experience ensuring compliance with California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA), Southern California Football Association (SCFA) and SBCCD rules, regulations, and policies.




Employment Requirements

The person selected for hire will be required to complete the following pre-employment requirements:

  • Submit to and successfully pass DOJ live scan/fingerprinting. Cost of live-scan services to be borne by candidate.
  • Sealed official transcript(s) in envelope from institution or electronic copies emailed directly from institution (for positions with higher education requirement)
  • Tuberculosis (TB) risk assessment
  • Employment verification(s) (for salary placement on faculty salary schedule)
  • Other pre-employment requirements may be required depending on the position (i.e. certifications or licenses; see job posting qualifications section for details).



Successful completion of all pre-employment requirements is mandatory to be eligible for employment. These requirements are in accordance with the San Bernardino Community College District's Administrative Procedures and Board Policies.
