Key Position Information:
Minimum required qualifications:
Master’s degree in Humanities, or Philosophy, or Religion/Theology, or Theater with credentialing in at least TWO of the above areas required; Doctorate degree a plus with multiple areas of teaching experience. In addition to a master’s degree, applicants must credential to teach (1) Introduction to Humanities, which encompasses a variety of disciplines across the visual, performing, and literary arts, with credentials to also teach either (2) Introduction to World Religions; or (3) Introduction to Philosophy; or (4) Theater. Your cover letter should specify, using the credentialing information below*, how you will credential to teach Humanities and to teach in at least one other, specified area above.

Documented college teaching experience.

Preferred qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Humanities (or related discipline: Philosophy, Religion, Theater) with coursework that will enable the applicant to credential to teach Humanities and one of Philosophy, or Religion, or Theater courses (18 graduate credits across at least two discipline areas)

Documented community or state college teaching experience.

Experience teaching in traditional, asynchronous online, and live online platforms.

Prefer applicants with: (1) familiarity with various teaching methodologies /practices, (2) the ability to develop activities that enhance and expand classroom instruction, (3) a passion for student learning.

Demonstrated commitment to an inclusive and rigorous learning environment.

Excellent communication, problem-solving, and people skills.

Demonstrated experience designing curriculum and courses.

Brightspace (D2L) experience preferred.

Quality Matters Certification preferred.

Expectations:
Teach five (5) courses each semester Fall & Spring. 15-15-0 contract.

This is an on campus, face to face teaching position that requires your presence on campus with office hours each week during the academic year. It is not a remote teaching position.

The expected start date for the position is mid-August, 2023.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in course development and program assessment.

Provide support to the Department of Fine Arts and Humanities.

  • Credentialing Requirements (Masters minimum with a PhD preferred):
Humanities (MA or PhD)

Graduate degree in Humanities with additional 18 graduate semester hours in either Philosophy, or 18 graduate credits in Religion/Theology, or 18 graduate semester hours in Theater

or

Religion (MA or PhD)

Graduate degree in Religion or Theology with 18 graduate semester hours in at least two of the following subject areas:

Anthropology, Art Appreciation/Art History, Classics, Drama, English/Literature, Humanities, Music Appreciation/Music History, Philosophy, Religion/Theology, Western/Eastern Civilization, Theater

or

Philosophy (MA or PhD)

Graduate degree in Philosophy with 18 graduate semester hours in at least two of the following subject areas:

Anthropology, Art Appreciation/Art History, Classics, Drama, English/Literature, Humanities, Music Appreciation/Music History, Philosophy, Religion/Theology, Western/Eastern Civilization, Theater

or

Theater (MA or PhD)

Graduate degree in Theater with 18 graduate semester hours in at least two of the following subject areas:

Anthropology, Art Appreciation/Art History, Classics, Drama, English/Literature, Humanities, Music Appreciation/Music History, Philosophy, Religion/Theology, Western/Eastern Civilization, Theater

Teaches a 15-15-0 annual contract

Face-to-face modality

Credentialed in other disciplines (REL,THE, PHI)

Committee work

Position Summary:
A faculty member at SPC has the primary function of instruction, coaching and student development. Secondary functions include assisting the college in developing and maintaining a quality program of instruction, providing service to the college and continuing professional development.

Requirements:
Education:
Master's degree or applicable college degree in related academic discipline. Doctorate degree a plus with multiple areas of teaching experience.

Experience:
Teaching experience at the College level is required. Related work experience preferred for technical programs.

Managerial principles and practices

Presentation principles and practices

Computers and related software applications

Skills:
Experience in online instruction or technology enhanced instruction

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities:

Demonstrates a professional, cooperative and considerate attitude toward students, colleagues and staff.

Performs related duties as required
