Agriculture and Land-Based Training Association (ALBA)

Title: Agriculture Education Program Coordinator

Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt, Hourly

Salary range: $22-27/hr

Reports to: Program Director

Schedule: Hours to be coordinated and authorized by supervisor. Will include Saturdays and some evenings. Must be able to work onsite on our beautiful farm.

ALBA is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and farm training center located in the heart of the Salinas Valley. ALBA creates opportunities for low-income field laborers through land-based training in organic farm management, helping them advance their careers or pursue the dream of farm ownership.

Responsibilities:

? Assist with fulfilling the objectives of ALBA’s Education Program: o Coordinate, provide, and help develop curriculum for workshops, field days, as well as other trainings and initiatives; o Track program participants’ attendance, grades, graduation requirements and perform other data management, as needed; o Assist with recordkeeping and food safety compliance paperwork for demonstration field; o Provide one-on-one and small group technical assistance/coaching for participants; o Assist with the management of ALBA’s demonstration field;

Includes: crop planning; production activities, such as irrigation, fertilization, weeding, harvest; coordination of marketing; recordkeeping and compliance. o Lead experiential learning opportunities, as well as field trips and tours, for other audiences that includes youth, college students, and the public; o Perform outreach and recruitment; o Assist with reporting and evaluation; o Apply knowledge and skill to increase the likelihood of success for ALBA’s farmer participants. o Other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:

? Bachelor of Science or Science degree in an agriculture-related discipline;

? Hands-on experience in organic vegetable production;

? Knowledge of commercial-scale vegetable production in the Salinas Valley;

? Ability to carry out projects independently;

? Proficiency in both written and oral English and Spanish;

? Strong sense of initiative, versatility, teamwork and passion for helping others to succeed;

? Ability to maintain positive working relationships with diverse constituencies, including youth, farmworkers, vendors, staff, partner organizations and members of the public;

? Proficiency in the use of computers and software, and the ability to adapt to new platforms;

? Ability to maintain client confidentiality;

? Hold a California Driver’s License.

Working Conditions: Work will be both indoors and outdoors; must be comfortable working in agricultural fields and variable climatic conditions. May be required to lift/carry up to 40 lbs.
