Research Coordinator, Georgetown Laboratory for Relational Cognition - Georgetown University College of Arts & Sciences

Work in the Georgetown Laboratory for Relational Cognition focuses  on relational thinking and reasoning – that is, how we understand the connections between the ideas and events we encounter and how we come up with new, creative connections. We seek to contribute to bridging the gap between the real-world classroom and the cognitive neuroscience laboratory. Current directions in the lab include learning about relational concepts and reasoning strategies – as well as those in real-world STEM classroom.

Job Overview

The Research Coordinator conducts scheduling, recruitment, and data collection for an NSF-funded study of concept development and reasoning in real-world high school STEM education. Primary responsibilities include interfacing with students and families, as well as with teachers and school administrators.

Additionally, they have substantial opportunity to engage with all aspects of the project, including collection and analysis of behavioral and brain-imaging data.

Work Interactions

Reporting directly to both this project’s postdoctoral researcher and to the Principal Investigator, the Research Coordinator works alongside graduate students.

They also supervise and coordinate undergraduate research volunteers; and interact with human subject participants, graduate students in the laboratory, and lab personnel via phone and email.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma/equivalency or an Associate’s degree
  • 1 to 2 years of undergraduate or post-graduate research experience - ideally in the biological or psychological sciences
  • Willingness to learn new skills and enthusiastically take on new projects and responsibilities
  • Attention to detail, high level of self-motivation, and strong interpersonal and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience gathering fMRI data
  • Programming experience - e.g. , E-Prime, MATLAB, Python
