Outreach Program Associate

Princeton University

Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Transfer and Outreach, the Outreach Program Associate is a 36-month term position housed in the Emma Bloomberg Center for Access and Opportunity. The Associate will support the Director in providing administrative, academic, co-curricular, and logistical support for initiatives aimed at extending the University’s academic offerings to a broader group of historically underserved undergraduates beyond those currently matriculated at Princeton.

The Associate will have a particular focus on supporting the launch and initial pilot years of a new summer intensive program for community college students that will be hosted on Princeton’s campus beginning in June-August 2023. The program aims to provide a wider group of community college students with immersion in a research-intensive and liberal arts environment, offering customized support for their application and eventual admission to a selective four-year college.

The Associate will contribute to and help support every aspect of the program launch: liaising with partner schools; assisting the Director of Transfer and Outreach in collaborating with faculty on curriculum and in reviewing, selecting, and enrolling transfer participants; serving as the primary point of contact with admitted students before, during, and after the summer intensive; and helping oversee the transfer success co-curricular program. After the pilot summer’s completion, the Associate will assist with follow-up with participating students, program evaluation, and needs assessment for scaling the program for 2024 and 2025. This will include curricular and programming work, like mentorship, advising, and workshop development and delivery, as well as administrative and logistical work, like space and room reservations, onboarding and payroll, etc.

During the academic year, the Associate will serve as a liaison between Princeton and the program participants, offering follow-up advising, and collaborating with staff and faculty at their home institutions in order to promote college success and transfer. The Associate may also assist with additional academic and co-curricular programming in coordination with existing efforts at students’ home institutions. The Associate will look for opportunities to scale these initiatives, including through online formats, in order to broaden participation to include larger group of community college students.

In addition, during the academic year, the Associate will coordinate with and may be called up to support the Community College Visiting Faculty Fellows Program, which places postdoctoral teachers in local community colleges to offer courses and provide advising and programming. With the Visiting Faculty Fellows and in coordination with the director of that program, the Associate may assist in offering workshops and programming on college success and transfer to community college students at partner institutions, provide logistical and administrative support to the program, and liaise with other faculty and staff at these partner institutions to assist in advising, mentoring, and tracking students during their transfer journey.

The Associate will also, as time allows, help the Emma Bloomberg Center solidify and scale its other curricular outreach work. This includes the development and delivery of FSI Online to introduce new populations to Princeton, as well as other strategic initiatives. This will include helping to manage partner relationships, curricular development in collaboration with faculty, administrative and logistical work, and student support broadly. The Associate’s work may focus particularly on STEM outreach and content delivery.
