Position Description: 

This position will support the Strong Families Support and Prevention Clinic within STRONG STAR. The Strong Families Clinic provides prevention and intervention services to families throughout deployments and other military-related transitions, and in the aftermath of trauma. The goals of the Strong Families Clinic are to assist military parents in recovering from posttraumatic reactions, reduce parenting stress, facilitate effective coparenting, and reduce children’s adverse reactions to parental PTSD and military-related transitions. The fellow will be expertly trained and will receive extensive supervision and consultation in trauma- and stress-focused prevention programming and interventions, including the Strong Families Strong Forces prevention protocol, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD, Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) for PTSD, Written Exposure Therapy (WET) for PTSD, and Cognitive Behavioral Conjoint Therapy (CBCT) for PTSD. The fellow will have opportunities to develop expertise in the application of evidence-based treatments for PTSD, gain competence in military culture, participate on clinical research teams, and to supervise a pre-doctoral extern students under faculty supervision. Though not required, there are ample opportunities to be involved in scientific manuscripts, conference presentations, and grant submissions.


Position Requirements: 

Qualifications for this position include a doctoral degree in clinical, counseling, or school psychology. Fellows are required to have completed an APA Accredited Internship and APA Accredited Doctoral Program. All applicants must have the unrestricted ability to work in the US. Previous experience working with military service members or veterans, providing evidence-based PTSD treatment, and/or working with children and families is preferred. Spanish speaking fluency is highly valued. Per the Strong Families protocol, sessions may occur in the family’s home, in STRONG STAR offices, or virtually. Hours are flexible. This position requires accommodating families’ schedules, including evening appointments as needed. This position requires a personal vehicle to accommodate travel to in-home appointments.
