REPORTS TO: Dean of Instruction/Vice President of Academic Affairs
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
CONTRACT TERMS: Full-Time, 9-month
LOCATION: Trenton, Missouri-Main Campus or Savannah, Missouri-Savannah Campus

Position Summary: North Central Missouri College is seeking a full-time 9-month tenure-track English/Speech instructor beginning August 2023.  The successful candidate will be qualified to teach the full range of developmental and college-level freshman and sophomore English courses (and Speech preferred).

Essential Functions: Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Maintain current subject-matter knowledge as well as effective teaching and learning strategies.
  • Continuously improve instructional quality by utilizing innovative instructional methodologies, while reviewing the effectiveness of instructional techniques and delivery methods to ensure student success (i.e. instructional technology, collaborative learning, service learning, and online education)
  • Advance student learning through exemplary instruction in accordance with established course syllabus.
  • Utilize applied learning strategies to enrich student achievement, while maintaining a safe learning environment.
  • Teach a minimum of 15 credit hours per semester while being responsive to institutional needs (i.e. course offering times, modality), and through collaboration with department and division members.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the learning process by participating in the development and revision of the curriculum.
  • Implement and use student learning assessments, while producing reports, as required by the College.
  • Support student success and retention through scheduled office hours, timely communication, and other appropriate methods established by the College.
  • Establish annual objectives to include personal and professional growth plans.
  • Participate in student academic advising including support of the Academic Advising Department.
  • Assist in the identification and the recommendation of adjunct faculty, while also providing oversight for adjunct and dual credit instructors.
  • Develop and maintain alliances with appropriate constituencies and institutions.
  • Participate in division and college committees.
  • Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.

Qualifications:

Education: A Master’s degree or higher in English. At least 18 graduate credits in Speech, Rhetoric, Communications, or Theater preferred.

Experience: Teaching experience at the post-secondary level including teaching with technology is preferred.

Physical Demands: Moving about between buildings on the NCMC campus; reaching, pulling, and pushing when filing; able to do repetitive tasks; remain stationary at a desk while typing and answering phones; teach in a classroom setting for extended periods of time.

Environmental Demands: Fluctuations while moving on tile and carpeted floors in a heated and air conditioned environment.
