Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will join a vibrant and inclusive educational community and have a desire and ability to work with a diverse population.

The Coordinator of Student Engagement will coordinate a comprehensive student engagement program, including educational and community building programs. They will perform administrative work involving student activity planning. The Coordinator is responsible for planning/implementing programs, organizing student activities, providing guidance/leadership to students, providing advisement for student clubs/organizations (including Student Government Association), preparing and implementing budgets, acting as liaison between students, faculty and administration, and producing student publications such as newsletters and calendar of events. They will additionally be responsible for coordination of assigned staff, and performing related work as directed.


Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Oversee the day-to-day direction/vision for Student Engagement;
  • Coordinate campus-wide programming (on all three campuses) that is aligned with the goal and values of MassBay Community College, focusing on enhancing the sense of community, student engagement, retention and personal development, and MassBay’s commitment to diversity & inclusion;
  • Provide leadership and guidance to college student clubs/organizations, including but not limited to formulating/coordinating procedures for student clubs; producing/distributing club handbooks; providing on-going trainings for club and advisors; assisting with formation of new clubs and of club activities; recruiting faculty/staff for advisory roles with student clubs;
  • Partner with the Coordinator of Students of Color program to design and create social and educational programs for Students of Color;
  • Work with the Chief Diversity Officer in supporting student affinity groups and developing student engagement;
  • Responsible for the oversight of three budgets: Student Engagement, Clubs, and Student Government Association;
  • Serve as the advisor to Student Government Association (SGA);
  • Assist in developing/implementing Student Engagement policies and procedures;
  • Coordinate civic engagement opportunities for students;
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of the LEAD (Leadership, Engagement and Development) Program, student leadership workshops and providing training for student leaders;
  • Maintain the Student Engagement, SGA, and Clubs websites;
  • Plan and implement the first six-week programming model;
  • Assist with the coordination of the theme month programming (women’s history month, Black History Month, LGBT+, etc);
  • Interact with various agencies/individuals (including but not limited to. – attend meetings; participate in campus-wide committees and serve in chair/co-chair capacities as appropriate; participate in community service projects and education; review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems);
  • Supervise assigned staff (i.e. – instruct assigned staff in performance of duties according to established standards; plan the work of others and allocates personnel; prioritize, assign, review, and coordinate work; recommend the transfer, promotion, discipline, discharge, and salary increases of employees);
  • Maintain professional knowledge in applicable areas (i.e. – maintain a working knowledge of assigned area; maintain current knowledge of applicable state, federal, and local laws/regulations; research new trends and advances in the profession; read professional literature; attend conferences, workshops, and training sessions).

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, or closely related field; with six (6) years’ experience and/or training that includes student activity planning/coordination, leadership development, and interpersonal relations; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;
  • Experience working in a diverse environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students;
  • Demonstrated successful experience in a community college or comparable setting is desired as well as experience conducting leadership training, advising student organizations, conducting orientation programs, and working with diverse populations;
  • Master’s degree in Higher Ed Administration, Education, or other closely related field;
  • Demonstrated experience working with students in co-curricular activities including but not limited to Student Government and mentoring programs;
  • Demonstrated experience in the area of diversity, equity and inclusion. This should include programming, training, policy development or administration, and facilitation of student programs;
  • Working knowledge of civic engagement efforts and commitment to integrate community awareness activities into co-curricular programming efforts;
  • Experience working with higher education commuter populations to motivate and energize students in co-curricular activities.


Additional Information:


Salary Range:
 $58,320 - $66,034, in accordance with one's education and experience as dictated by the collective bargaining agreement classification compensation structure.
