Under the direction of the Dean of Students, the Career & Employment Center Counselor/Coordinator will perform and be responsible for the following duties:

  • Provide individualized, comprehensive counseling and support in the following areas: academic, career, personal and transfer, with an emphasis on career counseling;
  • Develop and update student educational plans (SEP) utilizing the Starfish platform;
  • Administer personality, interest and career assessments, then provide result interpretation to support the career development cycle;
  • Understand and educate students about the career development cycle and provide career counseling support along their journeys;
  • Evaluate transcripts, translate transfer requirements and aide students in the transfer process;
  • Monitor and track students’ academic performance and progress towards academic objectives to ensure effective use of support services and successful attainment of program outcomes;
  • Coordinate and lead career development workshops, virtual webinars, classroom presentations and department events;
  • Collaborate with campus personnel, community members and local business personnel to coordinate campus job fairs, career week events, workshops, industry tours, classroom presentations, campus-wide presentations, and various career-related events;
  • Work in partnership with the job developer and coordinate student ambassadors;
  • Maintain the Career & Employment Center webpage, online assessment platforms (Job Speaker, TypeFocus, RoadTrip Nation, Career Coach) and social media pages by providing resourceful content and Center workshop/event information;
  • Participate in curriculum development for counseling-related courses;
  • Develop and assess course and program Student Learning Outcomes to improve student learning;
  • Participate in professional development activities, program development and review, student activities, high school outreach, and faculty committees;
  • Assist in the organization and implementation of matriculation activities, such as Pathway orientations and new-student registration events;
  • Collaborate with Outreach and Recruitment office and Dual Enrollment department to develop partnerships with high school personnel to engage and prepare students prior to college entry;
  • Lead K – 16 and community outreach through career presentations, career/job fairs, online resources, ongoing communication and collaboration;
  • Advocate for all students to ensure quality education and equitable services are provided by the college and the Center;
  • Oversee and balance the department budget, solicit community donations and write grant proposals;
  • Develop reports for progress monitoring activities;
  • Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed;
  • Participate in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
  • Working assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, on-line or off-campus and large group instruction classes as needed;
  • Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of faculty as required by Administrative Regulation 7122; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom; AND

  • Master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling ; OR

  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT); OR

  • A valid California Community College Credential; OR

  • The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
  • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
  • Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
  • Related work and professional experience;
  • Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including disabled students;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with computers, and other technologies, which are utilized in providing high-quality instruction and support to students;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;
  • Experience in designing and preparing Student Educational Plans (SEPs) for community college students;
  • Experience teaching courses in career and personal development;
  • Experience in developing and presenting counseling related workshops and orientation sessions;
  • Experience providing counseling and follow-up services to students on probation or academic dismissal status;
  • Knowledge of California Community Colleges matriculation processes;
  • Knowledge of student development theories pertaining to community college students;
  • Demonstrated ability to connect students with on/off campus resources to assist them in their college life management;
  • Demonstrated ability to use a broad range of technology pertaining to data collection and analysis for student success;
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with faculty in academic divisions and engage in collegial dialogue on issues of student success;
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies and best practices in education;
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills;
  • Experience working with individuals of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds; and
  • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

Conditions of Employment

181 duty days per year, contingent upon funding. Duty days will be prorated based upon start of assignment.

Salary and Benefits

Annual starting salary is $60,678 – $93,414 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,270 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teacher’s Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure

Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.

From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents by the closing date and time listed on the job announcement, a selection advisory committee will review the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications then determine who will be invited to interview.

The selection advisory committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President and College President for final interviews.

A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.

About the College
Reedley College is located in the Central San Joaquin Valley of California in the city of Reedley, which has a population of approximately 25,000. Known as “The World’s Fruit Basket,” Reedley is in one of the richest agricultural regions of the world. Reedley College was established in May 1926 as Reedley Junior College. Reedley College is located on the historic T.L. Reed Ranch, bordering the Kings River which spans over 420 acres, including a 300-acre farm. Over its nearly 100 years of service to California’s Central San Joaquin Valley, Reedley College has been an essential component of higher education offering over 67 programs and degrees taught by approximately 180 full-time faculty and 400 part-time faculty.
