Responsibilities*

Basic Function and Responsibility

This TEMP position is dedicated to 100% patient care as a clinical pharmacist, generalist within the specialty pharmacy dispensing and fulfilment team. This position reports directly to the Pharmacist Manager, East Ann Arbor Pharmacy.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

The pharmacist will support patient care responsibilities for University of Michigan (UM) Health Specialty Pharmacy patients. In this role, pharmacists provide care for patients within a variety of disease states and perform prescription quality assurance verification prior to specialty medication shipment. The clinical pharmacist, generalist (fulfilment) also supports clinic providers in selecting appropriate specialty medication(s), addressing prescription order discrepancies, and responding to patient-specific drug information requests as needed.

Core functions include:

Patient care duties include performing prescription review and final quality assurance verification in a timely manner while assuring appropriateness of therapy. Medication reconciliation is performed on each set of prescription orders to ensure therapeutic appropriateness in conjunction with UM Health providers and clinics, and occasionally requires close coordination with UM Health clinics providing care to specialty patients. Pharmacist responsibilities are focused to ensure optimal effectiveness and safety of medications dispensed and to consistently provide accurate, clear, and timely drug information to members of healthcare teams and patients, as needed.

The incumbent will provide functional supervision of technical staff working in their area including completion of job assignments and assuring adherence to institutional policies and procedures. Additionally, the incumbent will contribute to accreditation maintenance and renewal along with associated quality improvement and assurance initiatives and metrics. Additionally, pharmacists provide input and suggestions for process improvements to improve the care that is provided to UM Health Specialty Pharmacy patients.

Required Qualifications*

  • Current, unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in the State of Michigan (including a controlled Substance license), or eligibility to become licensed within 90 days of employment start date. Pharmacist preceptor license is required following State licensure.
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) or bachelor’s degree in pharmacy with commensurate experience.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Credentialed as a Certified Specialty Pharmacist (CSP) by the Specialty Pharmacy Certification Board (SPCB).
  • Specialty, ambulatory care, and Medication Therapy Management (MTM) experience.
  • Ability to perform a variety of manual dexterity movements, including keyboarding; fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
