Sauk Valley Community College seeks innovative individual for a full-time professional-technical opening as a Transfer Program Coordinator/Program Advisor.

FUNCTION OF THE JOB :
Provides advising and support services to assigned transfer-bound Student Support Services participants. Coordinates transfer resources, programming, and campus visits.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as an information resource to TRIO students and TRIO program staff by maintaining knowledge of transfer articulation agreements and other transfer requirements and regulations.
  • Create and maintain transfer advising resources; including website. Serve as a liaison between the host institution and sending institution. Provide appropriate training and information for TRIO staff and participants.
  • Assist assigned participants in identifying and securing admission to potential transfer institutions.
  • Assists assigned participants with filling out the FAFSA and maximizing participants’ scholarships and grants for their chosen institution.
  • Coordinate campus visits to area four-year institutions, accompany participants on trips, and serve as a liaison between participants and area four-year institutions.
  • Develop and implement program workshops and seminars to enhance the graduation and transfer rates of participants.
  • Provide individual and group advisement services including: academic advising, transfer planning, financial literacy education, academic skills and study strategies, career exploration, and personal support. Maintain records of student contacts.
  • Monitor academic and graduation progress, provide needs assessments, and implement proactive intervention strategies.
  • As assigned, plans and implements cultural and educational activities and educational opportunities for participants. This may include some evening and weekend hours in which limited travel may be necessary.
  • Complete written reports as assigned and requested for reporting to the U.S. Department of Education and the College on a monthly, semester, and yearly basis.
  • Track and report provided services and outcomes on weekly basis to supervisor.
  • Collect, verify, and input accurate data into appropriate database systems on a daily basis.
  • Participate in campus initiatives that support the program mission and goals, as well as create and conduct presentations to market the program to diverse populations within the College.
  • Outreach to assigned TRIO students regarding academic concerns and assist students in obtaining support to meet these specific needs.
  • Assume all other reasonable professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

 

REQUIREMENTS :
Master’s degree in Counseling, Student Personnel, or a related field with three years experience with academic, transfer, career, or personal counseling required; or equivalent education and experience. Community college experience is preferred. Experience in implementation of learned professional development. Ability to implement new advising protocols and develop Individualized Education Plans to improve student outcomes. Experience in working with low-income and/or first-generation college students, and/or students with disabilities. Empathy towards the problems of under-represented groups. Preferred: background similar to that of the Student Support Services Program participants.
