Salary Minimum
$21.43/Hour; $44,746 Annually

Job Description
This position is responsible for the development, coordination and assessment of programs and activities related to the reintegration of veteran students into educational programs sponsored by Dakota County Technical College and Inver Hills Community College. This overall responsibility includes the establishment of veteran-friendly policies and procedures, outreach, recruitment and retention of veteran students, development and coordination of a veteran center and the development of community contacts.

Examples of Duties:
  • Develop and implement programming and services that result in the reintegration of veterans into civilian life and successful participation in educational programming offered by the College.
  • Provide services to veterans including academic advising and certification of benefits, dissemination of technical information, analysis and recommendations to determine the most effective use of available benefits, and also, to assist veterans maintain their academic standing and eligibility for available forms of financial assistance.
  • Assure the College’s status as a “Military Friendly School,” and as a “Yellow Ribbon Company” that is welcoming to veteran students and responsive to their needs and concerns.
  • Maintain high levels of awareness such that faculty, staff members and College administration are capable of providing support and military friendly policies and services to veteran students and their family members.

Required Qualifications
  • Associate Degree
  • Two (2) or more years of relevant experience
  • Familiarity with veterans’ issues and services
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Effective presentation and organization skills
  • Knowledge, background, and experience working with diverse groups of people

Preferred Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate Degree
  • Experience working with veterans’ policies and benefits
  • Experience working in an academic/higher education setting
  • Experience with fundraising and grant experience
  • Demonstrated collaboration with community organizations
  • The ability to work effectively with and lead others

Founded in 1970, Inver Hills is a comprehensive community college offering 35 program options and degrees including the Associate in Arts (A.A.), a liberal arts education degree that leads to transfer to four year colleges; the Associate in Fine Art (A.F.A.) degree in studio arts; and the career related Associate in Science (A.S.) and Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degrees in leading occupational areas such as nursing, paralegal, computer networking, law enforcement, human services, business, emergency medical services, teacher education, and more.

Located 10 minutes from downtown St. Paul, scenic Inver Hills Community College serves over 9000 credit students annually. Many Inver Hills students are first generation. The student of color population has increased from 24% to 28% in the last four years. Almost 30 percent of students are low income and eligible for Pell grants. Founded in 1970 Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) is a public, two-year technical college in Rosemount, Minnesota. DCTC offers about 150 programs that range from an AA, to a degree in pluming. DCTC will allows students the possibility to go right into work force after graduation. Students who graduate from DCTC gave a 90% chance of getting a job after graduation.

DCTC has over 2,000 students, and a very diverse culture. Students of color make up about 20 percent of the population. 35.2 percent of students are low income and eligible for Pell grants. Dakota County Technical College is a public two-year institution of higher education dedicated to the philosophy that there is dignity in all work and value in individual growth and learning.
