The Institute for Business and Social Impact (IBSI), established in 2013 at the Berkeley-Haas School of Business, builds upon the University of California Berkeley's historic commitment to excellence in research and public education to develop and disseminate innovative, impactful, and evidence-based solutions for policymakers, business, and nonprofits to tackle social and environmental challenges. The institute is a hub for research, training, and innovation. It leverages Haas and campus faculty and their research to develop courses and experiential learning opportunities for students and fosters partnerships with business, non-profit organizations, social enterprises, and the public sector to achieve a more equitable, sustainable, and inclusive society.

Responsibilities

Manages, plans and administers all administrative operations of the Institute.
Oversees all administrative operations, finance, human resources and facilities for program. Stewards IBSI's financial and human resources, overseeing all centralized operations functions related to personnel, budgeting and financial management, event planning, communications, and knowledge management. Oversee execution of programs once funded.
Prepares short- and long-range planning for administrative services operations and improvements to processes. Establishes and recommends change to policies which affect the assigned unit(s).
Drive overall strategy development for the Institute (IBSI), identifying meaningful opportunities for growth and ensuring alignment of programmatic activities with this strategy. Ensure successful operation of the Centers and programs within the Institute. Oversee fundraising strategy to support IBSI's self-supporting Centers and programs in their pursuit of these opportunities; and ensure that funding efforts are adequately coordinated. Drive Innovation and advise leadership (of centers and initiatives) on the design and adoption of new organizational models, policies, and procedures based on market research, internal data trends, training, and collaborations with consultants and partners.
Develops and monitors operational and budget processes, staff FTE, finance, human resources and space planning.
Development and execution of strategic plans for financing program activities and ensuring their ongoing financial sustainability. Plan, direct and control program budget(s) and manage financial, HR, communications and other supporting resources. Assure that all programs are financially viable. Develops and prepares budgets and financial reports for grants, general appropriations, endowments and other funds. Fund appropriations are typically moderate in complexity. Accomplishes goals though team of administrative professionals. Manages two outreach programs that drive increased college attendance for underrepresented communities. Manages administrative activities through admin officers for specific centers. Manage, coach, and evaluate team and work closely with staff to encourage their professional development. Represents the department on business affairs to the institution community and stewards relationships with IBSI's Center and Initiatives. Lead a communications and branding strategy that reflects the mission and supports fundraising. Develop and maintain relationships with the external advisory boards of IBSI's Centers/Programs and alumni groups and represent IBSI's programs to internal and external stakeholders. Play a leadership role in professional conferences on business and social impact and represent Berkeley-Haas. Maintain close communication with students and student clubs in the area of social impact. Facilitates the efforts of various initiative and centers and outside constituencies to ensure interdisciplinary collaboration.
Oversees the preparation and management of grant and contract proposals involving a diverse and / or wide variety of funding sources and agencies.
Oversee fundraising strategy (including sponsored projects and other grants) to support IBSI's self-supporting Centers and programs in their pursuit of these opportunities; and ensure that funding efforts are adequately coordinated.

Required Qualifications
Broad knowledge of the organization's processes, protocols and procedures with a focus on budget, account and fund management and/or personnel management under labor contract(s) and personnel policy. 10 years of relevant experience in financial analysis and reporting techniques; human resources and risk management planning and leadership. Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to influence/persuade all levels of staff. Skills in organization and customer service to effectively manage multiple important priorities. Proven ability to organize department work functions in an efficient and effective manner. Proven ability to problem-solve, prioritize, multi-task, and clearly communicate priorities and deadlines Broad knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs. Skills to work collaboratively with other locations. Proven skills to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify multiple options for resolution. Outstanding people management and mentoring skills and an ability to deliver constructive, meaningful, and motivating feedback to mentees as well as peers. Demonstrated management and conflict resolution skills to effectively lead and motivate others. Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural environments and desire to work in a and invest in the growth and development of the organization. Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrating a desire to promote diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging to establish and maintain positive & professional working relationships with colleagues, students and team members. Education/Training:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Management, Public Policy, or another quantitative social science discipline and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in Business, Economics, Management, Public Policy, or another quantitative social science discipline.
Salary & Benefits

This is a 100% time (40-hrs a week), monthly paid, exempt career position.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $101,300 - $170,000.00.
