The University of Southern Maine’s School of Business is seeking part-time Lecturers to teach courses in Sport Management.

We are seeking a student-focused instructors who will have full responsibility for course delivery and grading. Courses to be taught include Sports Marketing (BUS 311) and Esports Management (BUS 399). The semester runs from late August to mid-December 2023. Days, times, and course modality will be determined in collaboration with the Department Chair.

Sports Marketing (BUS 311): Basic marketing concepts are applied to sport organizations, both amateur and professional. Topics include promotions and public relations, sport consumer behavior, strategic marketing planning, marketing information management, marketing communications, and sponsorship. Credits: 3

Esports Management (BUS 399): This course will delve into the business side of the esports industry introducing students to culture of esports, esports terminology/definitions, and understanding the connections between traditional sport management and esports management. Additionally, topics may include: Esports business models, organizational structures, challenges/ opportunities within the industry, and creating an understanding of esports industry key stakeholders and building important industry relationships. Credits: 3

The University of Southern Maine’s Sports Management Program prepares students for a career as a sport business professional who understands the complexities of the industry and develops strategies for personal and organizational success. Part-time faculty members are paid on a credit hour basis based on prior college teaching experience. In addition, USM employees can use their USM Card to access the library, Cigna Employee Assistance Plan, and fitness center (s). USM also offers part-time faculty the opportunity for development frequently through our Center for Collaboration and Development (CCD) and the chance to get an online teaching certification and training through CTEL, in addition to other developmental opportunities open to all staff throughout the year.

Qualifications:
  • An MBA, Ph.D., or other relevant graduate level degree required.
  • Professional or classroom experience preferred.
