Job Summary

Reporting to the campus Vice President for Student Affairs, the Coordinator I – Intercultural Student Engagement and Academic Success leads campus programming and activities for students of color and other targeted student populations. A primary responsibility of this position is the fulfillment
of our five tenets of intercultural learning and success through programming focused on: academic support and scholarship, social and emotional support, career competency development, leadership skill development, and personal growth. Additionally, the position works in close collaboration with other Coordinators of Intercultural Engagement and Academic Success across the district, and other campus departments to support student success, i.e., advising and counseling, learning commons, health services.
All Coordinator I positions are responsible for providing managerial level work, overseeing the daily operations of their department, program, or processes focused on student support or significant complex business units. This position helps determine the direction of the department or program, monitor program budgets, and to leads institutional outreach efforts. This incumbent is expected to have a high level of department-specific knowledge.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Role-Specific Essential Performance Requirements
  • Leads the planning, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of programs to support student success such as the Men of Color Program, mentor programming, affinity programming, celebrations for underrepresented student groups, and leadership development and training for student participants
  • Collaborates with faculty and various departments such as the Learning Commons Division, Career Services, Public Relations and Marketing, Graphics, and other support programs such as diversity and inclusion initiatives on the campus in marketing and providing interdisciplinary support to students through workshops, events, academic coaching, mentoring, internships, workforce preparation, interventions, and program development for targeted student populations
  • Strengthens community engagement and high school and post-secondary partnerships in support of targeted student populations using a collective impact strategy and ensures an inclusive space for intercultural learning
  • Tracks and assesses student engagement and success efforts for targeted student populations by collecting data and creating reports for college leadership to track student progress and success
Essential Performance Requirements for all Coordinator I Positions

Service Excellence
  • Participates on behalf of the College in external community organizations and associations as assigned to support the essential performance requirements

  • Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC)
  • Supports the values of the College: diversity, teaching excellence, student success, innovation, and creativity and service to the College
  • Supports the mission, values and 3 goals and 8 principles of the College

Supervision
Works under the periodic supervision of the Vice President of Student Affairs

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education, training, or certification, and related to the Essential Performance Requirements
  • Five (5) years’ working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and reliable transportation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in college student personnel, higher education, counseling, educational psychology, sociology, multicultural studies, or a related discipline
  • Experience working in a college or university setting
  • Experience in advising and leading intervention strategies for targeted diverse student populations
  • Experience developing programs and planning events
  • Bilingual English/Spanish written and verbal fluency

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of effective strategies to promote student success
  • Knowledge of best practices related to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and social justice
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the open-door admission policy and philosophy of the comprehensive community college
  • Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal relationships with diverse populations
  • Skilled in interpersonal, verbal, and written communication with a wide range of stakeholders such Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment and a setting that is diverse
  • Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work are varied, and unpredictable in scope and volume
  • Ability to use computer applications and enterprise systems, including proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
  • as students, faculty, staff, administration, and community partners
  • Ability to set priorities and organize tasks, documents, reports, and materials effectively
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, use good judgment, discretion, and have awareness of and sensitivity to the interests and concerns of first generation and marginalized populations to engage, retain, and develop students
  • Ability to analyze data, create reports, and present findings to provide sound recommendations based on policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations
  • Ability to delegate work appropriately to faculty and staff to meet College and campus deliverables
