Position Summary
The College of Engineering invites applications for two full-time 1.00 FTE, 12-month, fixed-term Research Associate positions. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Department Head as appropriate.
The Research Associate will mentor and assist graduate and undergraduate students, help design and carry out experiments, and conduct original research in the area of robotics. The role includes performing independent research as part of a collaborative team on a project that combines soft robotics, robot control and locomotion, multi-robot coordination, motion planning, machine learning, and design of robotic systems. The successful candidate will develop new ideas, write proposals, and lead technical publications.

Position Duties
70% Research and Engineering:
Conduct original research, design, and test robotic systems from proof-of-concept to field testing.
20% Publication/Dissemination:
Dissemination of results through presentation at different venues and preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
10% Supervision and Other Duties as Assigned:
Supervision of student employees and postdoctoral scholars. Depending upon availability/need, there may be teaching duties for up to one robotics course per academic year.
Minimum/Required Qualifications
  • Earned Ph.D. in Robotics or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise in soft robotics, multi-robot coordination, and/or field robotics research.
  • Experienced in leading a team of graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Outstanding written and effective oral communication skills.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of soft robotics, bio-inspired robotics, and/or multi-robot coordination.
  • Expertise in underwater robotic systems.
  • Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
Work schedule varies depending on the workload, deadlines, and other factors.
