Position Summary: | The Program of Italian Studies at Villanova invites applications for a Post-doctoral Teaching Fellowship, starting in the fall semester 2023. The fellowship is renewable for up to two years, for a total of 3 years. We seek a teacher-scholar who is committed to teaching highly motivated undergraduates at all levels of the curriculum. The research specialization is open, but we wish to augment our current faculty’s interests. Our faculty’s areas of expertise range from medieval culture to modern design, fashion, and literature. Duties and Responsibilities: | The Fellow typically teaches three courses per semester and will have opportunities to design classes for each level of the curriculum. Additional teaching opportunities may be available, such as in the Augustine and Culture Seminar Program (ACS) for first-year students. ACS is an interdisciplinary seminar dedicated to the Catholic intellectual Tradition, especially as regards the dignity of the person, human solidarity, and the common good. The fellow also participates in the Italian Program’s meetings and events, with minimal service expectations. |
Minimum Qualifications: | Possession of a PhD in Italian or other relevant discipline. The degree should have been conferred after August 2018; applicants without a PhD must receive their degree by August 1, 2023. |
Preferred Qualifications: | The successful candidate will have demonstrated competence in instructional pedagogies, and the capacity to create innovative language and culture courses. In addition to quality teaching, the successful candidate should have a research program with the potential to produce publications that will impact our discipline. We seek applicants whose teaching and research has prepared them to contribute to Villanova’s values of veritas, unitas, and caritas. |
