Job Summary

The Cybersecurity Analyst is responsible for monitoring the various cybersecurity tools that are in place at the College of Lake County and provides “front line” support for identifying, triaging and mitigating any identified cybersecurity threats. The Cybersecurity Analyst will also work in conjunction with the team’s Cybersecurity Engineer to identify any potential “gaps” in coverage/visibility for the existing cybersecurity tools and to develop tactical plans to address any deficiencies. This role reports to the Director of Cybersecurity.

Required Qualification

  • Associate’s degree (minimum)
  • Must have a minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a Cybersecurity Analyst
  • Must have familiarity with common cybersecurity concepts
  • Must have experience with common malware analysis techniques/tools
  • Must be committed to keeping up-to-date with the changing cybersecurity threat landscape
  • Must have good customer services skills
  • Must have a strong attention to detail
  • Must have strong analytical skills
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills
  • Must reflect a positive and professional demeanor
  • Must be able to develop positive relationships with co-workers
  • Must be dependable, on time to work and available to work consistently
  • Must meet all established standards of conduct and work performance

Desired Qualifications

  • Higher Education experience, ideally in a community college setting
  • An innate focus on students and their success
  • An interest in improving existing processes and procedures on a continual basis
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English

Summary of Essential Functions

Under the guidance of a supervisor, performs the following tasks:

Department Operations and Processes (Percentage of time: 75%)
  • Monitors existing technology solutions in an effort to identify anomalous activities that are taking place on the College’s network/systems:
    1. Cybersecurity team’s helpdesk ticketing system queue
    2. Cybersecurity team’s queue for potential phishing submissions (e-mail queue)
    3. Dashboards for cybersecurity tools
  • Investigates phishing submissions (e.g. attachments, URLs) and identifies the threats posed to the College
  • Develops/implements recommendations to properly mitigate the risks identified during the analysis phase
  • Maintains good notes in the College’s ticketing system to track the actions that were taken
  • Supports the Director of Cybersecurity as a liaison to any 3rd parties that provide Security Monitoring & Operations services
  • Contributes to the Cybersecurity team’s knowledgebase
  • Proactively identifies control deficiencies/gaps
  • Performs project-based assignments for cybersecurity initiatives

Student/Customer Services (Percentage of time: 20%)
  • Supports the Incident Response efforts for the College as needed (e.g. Off hour support, liaison to external security service providers)
  • Develops/maintains the Cybersecurity Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) documentation
  • Participates in the development and execution of Cybersecurity themed table top exercises
  • Manages the Cybersecurity team’s metrics reporting

Other (Percentage of time: 5%)
  • Performs quarterly access audits/reviews
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned
