Job Description

Position Summary

Victoria College's Allied Health Division is recruiting for a part-time (25 hours per week) Program Coordinator to work in the Continuing Education Department in conjunction with the Texas Area Health Education Center (AHEC) East-Victoria Region.  This position is responsible for marketing and recruiting health profession students, developing and assisting with health profession opportunities for students, promoting public health and health career initiatives for both in person and virtual events. Ideal candidate will have knowledge of health profession education, enjoy working with students, faculty and community partners. 

AHEC is a federally and state funded program that strives to improve the quality of healthcare by improving the supply and distribution of healthcare professionals in rural and underserved communities.  Programs include recruiting individuals into health professions, establishing community-based training for health profession students, providing health education, and networking with community partners to address unmet health needs.  

*This is a grant funded position supported by a five-year Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant.  This sub-award between UTMB and Victoria College is funded through August 2027.  Continuation of this position is contingent on renewal of Texas AHEC grant funds.  


This position is benefits eligible. 

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to the following: 

  1. Market AHEC Scholars program to health profession students in our region and to our existing partnerships (Health Profession Schools)
  2. Develop and coordinate AHEC Scholar activities for health profession students in our region
  3. Create and manage social media marketing strategies and content
  4. Communicate and support AHEC Scholars, input all data related to their coursework and progress
  5. Promote health career and health initiative programs to high school, college and university students as requested
  6. Facilitate health profession student rotations; effectively communicate with students, faculty and community preceptors
  7. Participates in all TAE Center meetings, virtual meetings and calls as requested.
  8.  Other duties as assigned by Project Director

Qualifications

  1. Associate degree or currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Communications, Marketing, Health Education or a related field
  2. Experience with software, including MS Office, Internet, and email. 
  3. Experience or willing to learn database management system
  4. Current Texas driver’s license
  5. Required travel to regional schools, state conferences and professional development
  6. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills
  7. Discretionary judgment regarding confidential information
  8. Ability to accomplish basic business tasks, meet deadlines, and ability to learn and interpret policies and procedures
  9. Ability to interact with diverse groups
  10. Ability to operate with flexible deadlines and schedule

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle controls, key pads, etc. Will be required to sit and reach with hands and arms as well as, sit, stand and walk. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds while loading office supplies and paper. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, some color vision, and the ability to adjust focus from documents to computer screen. Hearing of light to moderate sound is required by this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
