Job Description

The Position

We have an opening for a highly passionate postdoctoral fellow with a strong background in RNA biochemistry, analytical chemistry, and/or functional analysis. The fellow will join the Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED) organization, with a primary appointment in the Small Molecule Analytical Chemistry (SMAC) Department, with a secondary appointment in the Molecular Biology Department. Research endeavors will involve the development of unique cell and biochemical assays, including sequencing approaches, to study the functional effects of chemical modifications within synthetic RNAs. The successful candidate will have the access to innovative therapeutic RNA molecules and technologies such as ONT GridIon and MinIon, Illumina miniSeq and NextSeq 2000, multi-dimensional liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (mD-LC-MS), and the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative and fruitful environment. The projects will involve working closely with groups across different functional expertise within Genentech and external collaborators.

Who you are:

  • Candidates must have a PhD in RNA analytical, functional or biological assessment, or a related field, with one or more first-author publications in high quality journals.

  • Successful experience with the sequencing and structure determination of large RNA and their modifications (including Nanopore or nuclease-based techniques).

  • Experience with biophysical characterization methods for protein-nucleic acid interactions and genome editing performance (such as the CRISPR/Cas9 technology) or in vitro assay development are beneficial.

  • Practical knowledge of computational data analysis tools is desired.

  • Pragmatic and focused researcher, driven to solve complex scientific problems independently and in a collaborative environment.

  • Efficient oral and written communication skills are required.
