Position Summary:

The Director for the Gateway Center for Equity and Social Justice, facilitates and manages a comprehensive array of equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) initiatives at a Gateway Community College to assist and support students, staff, faculty and the community and serves as the primary administrator for the Center for Equity and Social Justice at the college.

Incumbents must possess proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.)

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in an appropriately related field together with two (2) or more years of related experience which includes up to two (2) years of experience in the supervision of the work of others; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties.

Successful Candidate must have or must possess:

  • Non-academic student supports.
  • Equity-minded activities for staff and faculty.
  • Community services and the development of community partnerships.
  • Service record keeping and the development of reports.
  • Supervision of staff.
  • Budget management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of Higher education and/or community experience in developing and delivering equity-minded programming.
  • Demonstrated record of service to marginalized populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather and interpret data in order to assess effectiveness and impact of programs or initiatives.
  • Experience with Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action or other equity-focused policy/regulation

Example of Job Duties:

Under the direction of the Campus CEO, the Director Center for Equity and Social Justice is accountable for facilitating, internally and externally, non-academic support services for students and equity-minded programming for staff and faculty through effective performance in these essential functional areas:

  • Program planning and development
    • accountable for developing a comprehensive program of non-academic assistance to contribute to attainment of the College’s goals of providing higher education to its students.
  • Service delivery
    • accountable for the effective and efficient delivery of non- academic supports for students and equity-minded services to the College’s staff and faculty.
  • Training, development and direction of staff, consultants, and community partners
    • accountable for providing an appropriately qualified staff, consultants and community partners for assuring their effective performance.
  • Budget and fiscal management.
    • accountable for management of financial resources and for the value of services provided with those resources.

In addition to the accountabilities listed above, the incumbent is required to carry out the essential duties of: Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies; Service on assigned committees and task forces; Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings. These may involve attendance at evening or weekend events.

Starting Salary:

Anticipated Salary; $77,003 approximate annual plus excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits.

Selection Procedure:
