Position Highlights The Department of Biosystems Engineering invites applicants for the position of Postdoctoral Research Associate I. This position is for a USDA funded project “Water Use, Growth, and Yield of Cotton and Guayule under Gravity Drip Irrigation” at the University of Arizona Maricopa Agricultural Center. The incumbent of this position will perform project related efforts that involve installing and maintenance of irrigation system and sensors, irrigating the experimental field, plant/soil data collection, remote sensing data collection (via drones), lab analysis, data analysis, and publication. Experience in crop water management, remote sensing and drone image processing, and drone operation is desired. Successful candidates must have good understanding of irrigation engineering technologies, such as sensors, subsurface drip irrigation, fertigation equipment, and irrigation models.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Running and maintenance of gravity drip irrigation system.
  • Collecting and processing field data (plant measurements, soil and plant samples, soil water content using neutron probe and other sensors).
  • Flying drones to collect remote sensing data.
  • Image analysis using Pix4Dfields and Mapper software.
  • Writing papers (publishing data in peer reviewed journals).
  • Helping during field display events.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Applicants must have, as of the beginning date of the appointment, a Ph.D.
  • Must have Remote Pilot Certificate or obtain Remote Pilot Certificate after hire.
  • Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy .
