Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director for Young Alumni & Student Engagement, the Assistant Director for Young Alumni & Student Engagement will work to engage our 200,000+ alumni around the globe and help facilitate meaningful connections between them and the university.

Essential Functions

  • Identifies new and creative ways to engage students throughout their four years, works to ensure a smooth transition from student to grad, collaborates with the Fordham Fund to increase student education about philanthropy, attends student club meetings and events, acts as a resource for student governments, club leaders, and student volunteers, and assists with young alumni events and activities, particularly those that also involve students.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with staff members in the Office for Student Involvement, the Career Center, and relevant academic departments.
  • Participates in and/or coordinates events and programs for current students including, but not limited to, New Student Orientation, Senior Toast, Senior Transitions events, Senior Week activities, Legacy Reception, the Parent Appreciation Dinner Dance, and Commencement.
  • Works closely with student leadership staff to develop strategies to involve undergraduates in alumni relations efforts throughout their student experience.
  • Supports the Associate Director with all DAUR initiatives involving young alumni and current undergraduate students, including the Fordham Mentoring Program.
  • Liaises with the Young Alumni Committee (YAC) and recommends alumni for deeper involvement in the life of the university.
  • Serves as a lead designer for event registration pages, static web pages, and calendar listings.
  • Assists with the creation and scheduling of email communications.
  • Participates in advancement activities and events including dinners, receptions, committee meetings, etc.
  • Assists with miscellaneous duties as assigned (e.g. phones, emails, filing, etc.).
  • Recommends changes to existing policies and procedures that will improve organizational performance.
  • Occasional evening and weekend assignment required. Some travel may be required.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, public relations, communications, or related field, preferably from a Jesuit institution.
  • One to three years of related experience in Alumni Relations or similar work-related fields.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both in writing and orally with various audiences.
  • Curiosity and analytical thinking skills; complex problem solving skills; ability to organize, prioritize, and complete multiple projects simultaneously with close attention to detail; ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to foster strong collaborative relationships at all levels of a complex organization, professionally interacting with all levels of students, staff, faculty, and outside groups.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in a team environment; ability and willingness to quickly learn the University’s history, mission, demographics, faculty, current programs, and departments, and culture.
  • Comfort with using personal computers, tablets, and software programs for retrieving, organizing, researching, and presenting appropriate alumni information.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite and aptitude for learning new software and/or programs.
  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with volunteer management, events, or communications.
  • Previous use of a CRM platform to support data driven decisions.
  • Background in Student Affairs.

Minimum Starting Salary: $64,000

Maximum Starting Salary: $67,500

Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
