Position Description
Advertised Job Summary | The Department of Mechanical Engineering, in the College of Engineering and Computing, welcomes applications from outstanding scholars who whose work contribute to, advances, or expands the boundaries of Mechanical Engineering. The position Postdoctoral Scholar (BF2) is part an inaugural cohort of the University’s Bridge to Faculty Program that enables Scholars to deepen their research expertise, expand their scholarly profiles, undertake academic work in the Mechanical Engineering department, and strengthen the College’s and University’s research community through their diverse perspectives. The Bridge to Faculty scholar in the Department Mechanical Engineering will join eleven other scholars from across the university who will form a dynamic and supportive community of scholars. The Postdoctoral Scholar (BF2) will: (1) develop teaching and mentoring skills through participation in engineering courses and supervision of laboratory research for students in preparation for transition to a faculty position. Teaching up to one course per year (or equivalent thereof); (2) design and conduct experiments, analyze and summarize data, prepare and submit manuscripts, prepare presentations, and communicate effectively in local, national, and/or international venues with limited supervision from mentors; and (3) participate in Bridge to Faculty and other professional development activities and outreach; this includes engagement with relevant professional societies |

Minimum Qualifications | Terminal degree in preferred or related field must be awarded between July 1, 2019 and August 15, 2023. |
Preferred Qualifications | Must have PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or a closely related field by the time of their appointment from an accredited institution. |
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities | Expertise in one or more of the following areas: advanced materials, aerospace, mechanics and multi-physics, thermo-fluids, energy, biomedical, nuclear, smart structures, mechatronics, and nanotechnology. |
