As a member of the Office of the Vice Provost for Research, the Department Administrator will communicate on behalf of the office with internal and external audiences, promoting the research enterprise at Brandeis. The Office supports the pre-award side of sponsored research (identifying and applying for grants), oversees the responsible conduct of research and ensure compliance with regulations. The office also oversees technology licensing and appoints research scholars and postdocs. Finally, the office advocates for and communicates about researchers at Brandeis.

Key Responsibilities:

Research Communications

  • Write and edit content for the Brandeis University research website, creating and updating information about funding opportunities,  regulations, university policies, safety, and Brandeis faculty and staff research and accomplishments.  Communicate about new developments and best practices with the Brandeis research community using email, social media, or in person workshops.

Administration of Researcher Appointments

  • As the primary contact for the Office of Postdoctoral Scholars,  administer the postdoctoral fellow appointments and other courtesy appointments through superb project management skills and experience working with tight deadlines.
  • Provide a point of contact for postdoctoral scholars and help them navigate the resources available to them through the VPR Office and other university offices.

Administration of Grant Competitions and Nominations

  • Manage internal grants, limited submission opportunities, and other competitions for Brandeis researchers. Manage the process for nominating Brandeis scholars for external awards. 

Administrative support for the VPR Office

  • Support the internal business processes of the VPR Office, helping with scheduling, expense reporting, and committees.

Educations & Work Experience:

BS/BA/equivalent required plus 1- 3 years of related experience or AS/equivalent with formal administrative training plus 3 years work experience

Additional Information & Requirements:

  • Significant experience in the university research process or familiarity with processes around sponsored projects and grant applications, or knowledge of regulatory issues related to research (IRB and IACUC *protocols, issues around appointments) are not required but would be helpful.
  • Superb organizational and communication skills essential, both outward facing and inward facing.
  • A collaborative and inclusive professional style, ability to build strategic relationships with staff and faculty.
  • Willing to take on complex problems and work with others in the office to find novel or creative resolutions.
  • Ability and inclination to anticipate future opportunities and consequences.
  • Communicates clearly and promotes the mission and goals of the VPR Office.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to prepare and present complex information effectively.
  • Experience with web publishing, social media and using databases.
