Med-Microbiology and Molecular Genetics - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (23000834)
 

The Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics and the Center for Vaccine Research (CVR) is seeking a Research Assistant Professor.  The incumbent is expected to enhance and expand on research related to combining evolutionary, molecular, and structural approaches to understand past, present, and future viral transmissions.  The research questions will span a range of timescales, from processes that unfold across millions of years of virus-host co-evolution to those that occur in days or weeks within an infected individual or host cell.   Work will include experiments performed in Biosafety Level (BSL) 2 and 3 environments with routine work in the Regional Biocontainment Laboratory (RBL). Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, designing and conducting independent studies; analyzing, preparing, and presenting data; performing advanced biochemical and molecular biology techniques; determining protein structures; maintaining tissue culture lines and generating primary cell cultures; independently initiating research protocols; supervising and training other professional research personnel in specialized techniques; operating and maintaining laboratory equipment; and maintaining thorough documentation of laboratory results. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Virology and have postdoctoral research experience. Successful candidates are expected to establish independent, nationally/internationally recognized, externally funded research programs. This position requires successful completion of Department of Justice security clearance for work with Select Agents and Toxins, as required by Federal regulations as well as a Suitability Assessment for work with Tier I pathogens.  Qualified applicants should apply to requisition number 23000834.
