Transfer Advisor

Job Description

This position is responsible for providing a wide variety of educational planning services relating to transfer (advising, workshops, tours, programming, etc.) for students transitioning from FCC to a four-year institution. The Transfer Advisor will provide proactive academic advisement and assistance in long-range academic planning, exploring transfer opportunities, helping students utilize college resources and understand college policies, and identifying or changing majors, if necessary, to meet their transfer needs. The Transfer Advisor will work with the Transfer Coordinator in implementing and ensuring compliance with state laws. The person should have the ability to use varying styles and approaches that reflect an understanding and acceptance of the role of culture in a diverse, multicultural workplace.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following are the functions essential to performing this job:

1. Provide comprehensive transfer advising services and outreach to students to assist in transfer to four-year institutions.
2. Develop and implement proactive strategies to increase student awareness of transfer-related policies, procedures, and opportunities, transfer articulation agreements, and scholarship opportunities.
3. Identify needs and provide specialized transfer support services to targeted student populations.
4. Assist with the development, implementation, and coordination of all services pertaining to transfer advising, including tours of four-year institutions, transfer seminars, and transfer events.
5. Review and understand current information on transfer articulation agreements between FCC and other institutions, particularly Maryland Universities and Colleges.
6. Assist with assessment initiatives to evaluate academic advising, transfer effectiveness, and enhance services.
7. Serve as a liaison with other college offices, community agencies, and organizations.
8. Develop resources and materials (i.e. guides, web pages, etc.) to educate students about transfer policies, procedures, and opportunities.
9. Assist with advisement during peak advising periods to provide holistic advising services across multiple disciplines.
10. Research and apply best practices for providing transfer advising services and the integration of technology.
11. Support various enrollment, retention, and completion initiatives of the College.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Required Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s Degree
2. Two (2) years of academic advising experience in a higher education institution

 

Desired Qualifications
1. Experience coordinating and implementing transfer services-related initiatives at a community college
2. Experience using integrated student information systems and computer software programs.
3. Experience collecting data and writing reports
