Position Summary
The HEB School of Business and Administration invites candidates for Assistant/Associate Professor in Accounting. Full-time faculty at UIW are expected to teach four courses in the fall semester and four courses in the spring semester. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission.

Final rank will be dependent upon qualifications of finalist.

This position is considered a “Responsible Employee” under Title IX federal regulations and “Mandatory Reporter” under Texas state law and the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about Title IX violations. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Essential Functions
Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service, and professional activities.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in accounting consistent with the needs of the department.
  • Participate in curriculum development.
  • Advise students and providing individual help to students during weekly office hours.
  • Build relationships with the area business community.
  • Perform regular scholarly research and publication.
  • Provide service to the department, college, university, community, and profession.
  • Comply with UIW Faculty Handbook processes and policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

 

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Effective instructional delivery.
  • Proficient in use of instructional technology.
  • Ability to actively engage students in the learning process.
  • Ability to conduct respectful relationships with students both in and outside the classroom.
  • Ability to work collegially and productively within the university community.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education
  • Earned doctorate in business with a graduate major, minor, or concentration in Accounting or closely related field, with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Accounting; OR
  • JD or out of field doctorate with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Accounting; OR
  • Master’s Degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Accounting PLUS significant professional industry experience (indicated in experience) with a distinguished record of achievement as a practitioner within the profession.

 

 
  • Note that ABD status may be considered as long as all degree requirements, including dissertation, defense of a dissertation, and comprehensive examinations, have been successfully completed within one year of appointment.

Required Work Experience
  • Minimum of one (1) to two (2) years of teaching experience at the college or university level; OR
  • Seven (7) or more years of professional industry experience with a distinguished record of achievement.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching at the university level.
  • Experience in both face-to-face and distance education formats.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Expertise in taxation or information systems.
  • Other current national/international accounting certification.

 

 
  • Priority will be given to candidates with University-level teaching experience and evidence of high-quality teaching.
