Summary
Adjunct faculty provide instruction, monitor teaching/learning effectiveness, and collaborate on course design for courses assigned by the Associate Dean of the School of Business.

 

Duties
  • Teaches synchronous or asynchronous courses using current technology applicable to the discipline which may include face to face, online, and/or video-conferenced courses as needed.
  • Collaborates with School of Business faculty on course design utilizing the School of Business Canvas template and appropriately challenging coursework to help students realize their full potential as learners.
  • Ensures course content, activities, and assignments are established in Canvas prior to the term start date. Course content includes, but is not limited to, syllabus, course policies, video lectures, assignments and instructions, grading rubrics, etc.
  • Meets all designated course instruction guidelines, including but not limited to, posting weekly announcements with relevant information, monitoring/participating in discussions, grading student coursework within 72 hours of submission deadline, providing students timely and specific feedback, responding to student inquiries within 24 hours, maintaining weekly virtual office hours, and other requirements as established by the School of Business.
  • Maintains frequent and open communication with the School of Business Associate Dean, MBA Director, faculty and staff through email, mail, telephone, and any other medium deemed appropriate. Be available at least once a semester to attend a virtual meeting with the Associate Dean and/or MBA Director.
  • Completes all trainings, assessments, and other documents as required by the School of Business and WNMU and remain current with trends, techniques, and advances in distance learning.
  • Submits mid-term and end of term grades by required deadline according to WNMU procedures.
  • Maintains a positive, safe, inclusive student-centric learning environment that supports success by enforcing WNMU policies to include student code of conduct policies, and those established by the School of Business and Office of Academic Affairs.
  • Models professional standards and ethics in accordance with WNMU and School of Business mission and vision statements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

Education/Background
Doctorate in a business discipline, (or J.D. for Business Law courses) with a major, minor, or concentration in the area(s) of teaching responsibility, or with a professional certification in the area(s) of teaching responsibility, or with 5 or more years of professional Business management experience; or Doctorate in a non-business discipline and at least 18 graduate credits in the area(s) of teaching responsibility with successful past teaching experience, professional Business management and/or consulting experience, and scholarly activity; or ABDs nearing completion and applicants who have master’s degrees in Business with a major, minor, or concentration in the area(s) of teaching responsibility, or with a professional certification in the area(s) of teaching responsibility, or with 5 or more years of professional Business management experience required. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

 

Job Knowledge
Ability and willingness to adapt courses to current technology applicable to the discipline and teach face to face, online, and/or video conferenced courses. Must have the qualifications to develop and teach business content areas such as Management, Accounting, Marketing, Economics, Finance, Entrepreneurship, or Business Law. Experience teaching web-based courses. Must be able to adapt to instructional needs of the department depending on circumstances. Must be knowledgeable of university policies and procedures. Must be able to handle multiple deadlines and maintain accuracy. Must be sensitive to cultural differences within the university and community. Fluent in Microsoft Office Applications.

 

Working Conditions/ Physical Demands (With or Without Accommodations)
Normal classroom environment. May be required to lift normal office equipment and materials. Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information. Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication. Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions. Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing, and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting. May be required to work additional hours or days depending on circumstances.
