DESCRIPTION

 

Starting salary for this position is: $3,096 (Monthly)

Employees starting at the entry step of this range receive salary step advancement after six months and every 12 months thereafter. If an employee starting at anything higher than the entry step of the range, will have salary step advancement after 12 months and salary step advancement every 12 months thereafter until they reach the top of the salary range. Each salary step advancement will be approximately a 5% increase in salary.

The Community Colleges of Spokane is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Warehouse Operator in the District Inventory/Central Receiving Department.

GENERAL DEFINITION

Reporting to the Logistics Manager, the Warehouse Operator 1 will process and deliver parcels to Community Colleges of Spokane (CCS) campuses and off-site locations. This position has direct responsibility for inspecting and processing parcels and ensuring faculty and staff receive parcels in a timely manner to facilitate the educational programs of CCS.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive, unload, move and load, and inspect various types of materials and equipment in order to deliver items to faculty and staff throughout CCS. *
  • Deliver equipment and materials to each campus, the district office and Head Start locations. *
  • Plan for deliveries and establish parcel priorities to the campuses. *
  • Maintain appropriate records to ensure accurate inventory of items shipped and received. *
  • Performs duties involved in maintenance, arrangement and cleanliness of the warehouse/worksite and equipment.
  • May act on behalf of the Warehouse Operator 2 as needed.
  • Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions. *
  • Complies with district policy, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statutes and collective bargaining agreements. *
  • Support and advance the CCS strategic plan, and perform related duties as required. *
  • Indicates this is an essential duty.

This position is designated a bargaining unit position.

 

COMPETENCIES & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS)

  • Knowledge of warehouse and inventory control standards.
  • Ability to verify and document materials received and shipped and recognize and properly handle materials of hazardous, toxic, or combustible nature.
  • Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing.
  • Acceptance of the responsibility to promote the welfare and best interests of students at all times.
  • A demonstrable understanding and acceptance of the mission, values, goals, objectives and strategic plan of CCS.
  • The ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and goals of the institution, and community and technical college system.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting a teaching, learning and working environment that honors diversity, equity and inclusion.

PREFERRED COMPETENCIES (DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS)

  • Six months (6) experience receiving, delivering and shipping with a large-scale government or commercial warehouse.
  • Forklift certified.

 

CONDITIONS/TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

TOTAL COMPENSATION WITH BENEFITS: $54,079 - $59,964.

Total compensation is an estimate based upon adding the following amounts together:

  • Base compensation of $37,152 - $42,696, plus
  • Current employer-paid health and related benefit contribution rates, plus

  • Median retirement fund contributions.

The actual total will vary depending upon each employee's enrollment choices.

Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment. An offer of employment will not carry with it any responsibility or obligation on the part of the District to sponsor an H1-B visa. In addition, the Community Colleges of Spokane maintains a drug-free work environment and prohibits all smoking in the college buildings and state-owned vehicles. Must be able to successfully work in and promote a multicultural work and education environment.

Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position. Once an applicant is chosen for an interview, they are required to complete and submit a declaration regarding sexual misconduct and investigation per state law.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work is active in nature.
  • Frequent use of computer and exposure to terminal screens.
  • Visual focus and strain.
  • Move up to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 75 lbs. occasionally.
  • Operates and controls movement of power tools and/or large mechanized, powered and non-powered equipment.
  • Frequent kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing and twisting.
  • Extension of arms overhead for sustained periods.
  • Requires communication ability necessary to understand instructions and recognize hazardous, unsafe or poisonous materials and/or products.
  • Occasional exposure to fumes, dust, odors and/or biohazards.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Full-time schedule (12-month, 40-hours a week).
  • 6-month probationary period; may be extended up to 12 months.
  • This position is overtime eligible.
  • Must possess or complete Hazardous Materials Training Certification within first 2 months of employment.
  • Must possess or obtain a forklift operator’s license within first 6 months of employment.
  • Requires local or regional travel. If using personal vehicle proof of driver's license and car insurance required.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator license required.
  • Criminal background check required.
