Job Summary

Midland College is seeking a Dean of Social/Behavioral Sciences & Business Division to provide leadership in a collaborative environment built on mutual respect, innovation, and continuous improvement. The Division Dean will oversee diverse academic transfer and workforce programs and disciplines: Anthropology, Business Administration, Child Care and Development, Criminal Justice, Economics, Education, Geography, Government, History, Organizational Management, Paralegal, Psychology, Sociology, and Student Success. In addition, the Division Dean will oversee two child care centers.

Candidate must have a commitment to student success, equity, and integrity, as well as a sense of humor and open-mindedness. The Division Dean works closely with other administrators, faculty, and staff to enhance student learning by aligning Division initiatives with the Midland College mission and strategic plan to #StartStriveSucceed.

Midland College awards certificates, associate degrees and baccalaureate degrees and supports completion through student-centered instruction and student services. 51% of graduates earn a Certificate and/or Applied Associates degree. An additional 47% of students earn an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree. With a 50% Hispanic population, our 5,500 students reflect the demographics of the wider five-county service area. Thanks to local philanthropy and broad community support, Midland College offers more than 200 local scholarships.

Midland College is a member of the SACSCOC Reaffirmation Class of 2021. The Division Dean will play an important role in the completion and implementation of the Quality Enhancement Plan.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in a discipline within the Social & Behavioral Sciences and Business Division and commitment to complete doctorate from an accredited university
Three years of faculty experience in higher education
Three years of higher education supervisory/leadership experience
Demonstrated written and verbal skills
Must possess a valid Texas Driver License, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College’s insurance policy

Preferred Qualifications

Doctorate from an accredited university with emphasis in a discipline within the Social & Behavioral Science and Business Division
Community College experience
Knowledge of and experience with:
Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges accreditation requirements
Texas Administrative Code and Texas Education Code
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board
Academic Course Guide Manual (ACGM)
Workforce Education Course Manual (WECM)
Guide for Instructional Programs in Workforce Education (GIPWE)
Dual credit programming requirements
Guided Pathways to Success organization and services

Essential Functions

Student Success:
Work with faculty to assess student learning
Use institutional data to improve outcomes
Collaborate with students, faculty, and student services to resolve student issues
Division Leadership:
Recruit, qualify, train, supervise, and evaluate faculty and staff
Lead curriculum development and review to ensure current and comprehensive curricula
Revise and approve catalog content
Oversee budgeting, resource allocation, and grants for the division
Promote exemplary teaching and advocate for the Division’s needs
Work closely with Chairs to coordinate personnel
Oversee course schedule preparation to meet student need
Maintain and develop relationships with dual credit partners
Serve on committees as assigned
Planning and Program Review:
Collect, compile, and disseminate student, program and institutional data
Participate in strategic planning for instructional area of college
Oversee Division Assessments and Curriculum Mapping
Develop Program and Discipline Pathways
Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Instructional Services and Presidentt

Pay Statement
