Position Summary

The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center is looking for an IT Support Tech 3 to join our team.  Under supervision, this position installs, maintains, tests, and repairs computer hardware and software.  Candidates should be well versed in hardware, software, and telecomm technical support and issue resolution.  This technical resource works within an ITSM ticketing system to receive, prioritize, document and actively resolve end user help requests, configure and support desktop and laptop computers, provision and manage user accounts among several systems, perform needs assessments, create proposals, and implement solutions.  This team member participates as a technical resource in both small and large projects.

The successful candidate must be a self-starter, be able to manage service requests from start to resolution, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, own deliverables end to end, prioritize workload effectively, and thrive in a dynamic environment.  The work schedule for this position is Tuesday – Saturday, with Tuesday – Friday starting promptly at 7AM and Saturday at 10:30AM until 3:30PM; assigned days off are Sunday and Monday.  This position requires the ability to be at work and be on time, interact in a positive and constructive manner with coworkers, take directions from a lead or supervisor, adhere to policies, procedures, and directives, and participate in a rotating on call/stand by schedule. 

1.      Performs complex problem solving and assistance on diverse software applications and hardware systems for department users and/or the university community.

2.      Provides in-depth individual and/or group instruction and/or training to end users on new or updated technologies.

3.      May provide functional direction to lower graded staff and/or student employees performing the same or similar type of work.

4.      Provides diverse technical assistance, documents findings and performs maintenance duties in support of a large unit that may encompass a variety of user support needs.

5.      Maintains, updates and audits record keeping systems; documents projects, writes and maintains user instructions.

6.      Oversees, maintains, and inputs applicable records, such as, but not limited to, network users, and tracking inventory levels of equipment and materials.  May input, reconcile and audit billing information from a record keeping system.

7.      Performs advanced technological systems support, maintenance, and testing for proper upkeep of systems; troubleshoots and resolves complex system hardware, software, and network failures and conflicts.

8.      Participates in and/or leads the review, evaluation and recommendations of solutions relating to hardware and software acquisitions.

9.      Participates in and/or leads research and development initiatives and provides assistance in the implementation of new technologies.

10.  Serves as a project member on small and large technology projects

11.  Oversees and performs the installation, configuration and maintenance of computers and/or other related equipment and devices.

12.  Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to technology, equipment, applicable laws, regulations, standards and/or systems.

13.  Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center is the Official Cancer Center of New Mexico and the only National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center in a 500-mile radius. Its 146 board-certified oncology specialty physicians include cancer surgeons in every specialty (abdominal, thoracic, bone and soft tissue, neurosurgery, genitourinary, gynecology, and head and neck cancers), adult and pediatric hematologists/medical oncologists, gynecologic oncologists, and radiation oncologists. They, along with more than 600 other cancer healthcare professionals (nurses, pharmacists, nutritionists, navigators, psychologists and social workers), provide treatment to 65% of New Mexico’s cancer patients from all across the state and partner with community health systems statewide to provide cancer care closer to home. They treated 13,578 patients in 105,748 ambulatory clinic visits in addition to in-patient hospitalizations at UNM Hospital. A total of 1361 patients participated in cancer clinical trials, including 544 (40%) patients who participated in clinical trials testing new cancer treatments that include tests of novel cancer prevention strategies and cancer genome sequencing. The more than 102 cancer research scientists affiliated with the UNMCCC were awarded $36.2 million in federal and private grants and contracts for cancer research projects. Since 2015, they have published 930 manuscripts, and promoting economic development, they filed 136 new patents and launched 10 new biotechnology start-up companies. Finally, the physicians, scientists and staff have provided education and training experiences to more than 530 high school, undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral fellowship students in cancer research and cancer health care delivery. Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Higher education and/or experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

·         2 plus years work experience in a help desk setting

·         1 plus year of Healthcare IT experience

·         1 plus year of Audio-Visual systems support

·         A+ Certification
