Job Description

A postdoctoral associate position is available in the Hematology Department (https://www.stjude.org/research/departments/hematology.html ) to investigate the mechanisms of developmental globin gene switching, identify promising new therapeutic targets for HbF induction, and optimize base editing and prime editing of HSPCs to treat genetic blood diseases. To this end, we apply interdisciplinary strategies by integrating functional genomics, genetics, genome editing and bioinformatics approaches.

The candidate will study the interplay between genome editors and different types blood cells (such HSCs, other progenitors and erythroid cells) and develop and optimize novel treatment for genetic blood disorders. In this position, the candidate will gain extensive experience and training in genomics, stem cell biology, and pre-clinical study. This position is part of an ongoing collaboration among Cheng lab, Weiss lab and the Therapeutic Genome Engineering group led by Dr. Yen. Please see the following articles published over the past two years for additional information: Nat Genet. 1177:1186 (2021); Nat Genet. 869:880 (2021); Nature. 295:302(2021).
