Postdoctoral Research Associate - Oncology

Job Description

We are excited to announce a postdoctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Dr. Lillian Guenther in the Division of Molecular Oncology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.  Dr. Guenther’s research specifically focuses on identification of novel therapeutic targets in osteosarcoma. Dr. Guenther’s research has utilized genome-scale CRISPR screening and other complementary large-scale chemical and genomic screening modalities in multiple types of pre-clinical models to uncover novel dependencies, or critical osteosarcoma-specific survival genes. Research in the Guenther laboratory is designed to discover how such critical osteosarcoma dependency genes enable cell growth, with an eye towards clinical translation. We are specifically interested in enrichment for DNA damage repair and replication stress-related targets in this disease, and how this biology may be optimally exploited to better treat patients.

Dr. Guenther is a passionate physician-scientist and has been a mentor to trainees of all levels. She is committed to training post-doctoral fellows in the development of scientific thinking and skills such as grant writing, manuscript writing, and effective presentation. Dr. Guenther will encourage the postdoctoral fellow to develop their own scientific ideas and hypotheses in a rigorous and supportive environment. Candidates will be expected to write manuscripts, contribute to grant applications, and apply for fellowship grants as eligible, and have exceptional writing and presentation skills. Dr. Guenther is dedicated to fostering an inclusive, diverse workspace that fosters equity while advancing pediatric cancer research.

The Division of Molecular Oncology and the top-notch core resources at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will allow the candidate access to the world-class expertise and technology necessary to perform high level science. The St. Jude Post-Doctoral Association provides extensive support to trainees in the institution including career advancement, scientific writing and speaking seminars, as well as community-building events. In addition, postdoctoral fellows at St. Jude receive a generous yearly Professional Development Allowance for travel to scientific meetings.
